The closet is a thing because society isn't safe for LGBTQ+ people.We should be fighting for a world and a society in which there is no closet, where people are able to fully express themselves without fear of being harassed or assaulted or fucking killed.We can, *and must*, do better.

       As a cis man speaking to cis people everywhere, we *have* to normalize asking for pronouns and not assuming. It's a small way in which we can make the world safer for our trans, non-binary, gender-nonconforming, etc comrades.I know it might feel weird at first, but part of it is also retraining *yourself* not to assume, and to get rid of the internalized assumption that we can guess/infer someone's gender and pronouns based on how they look.

       'Science' is not neutral because 'science' is conducted by humans and humans have biases, period. The good thing about science is *not* that it's neutral but that it provides a mechanism for accountability.As long as you have humans in the equation (and *yes*, that includes humans training AIs, motherfuckers), there *will* be bias. There *will* be narrative selection. And y'all should think a *lot* before unquestioningly using it to shut down trans and nb requests for inclusivity.

       It should be abundantly obvious that individual actions taken towards sustainability will *not* be enough. At the same time, it also seems absurd to knowingly participate in propagating the issue if one can avoid it.        @khm @kunev @mcc That's not really fair considering the costs that Session paid (they got rid of PFS, for example) and Session is...about to die in < 90 days.Signal, meanwhile, literally has the gold standard of encryption and is designed so that we largely don't have to trust the server.Federation is nice because of the properties it brings, but it also has trade-offs. Sometimes, those trade-offs don't always make sense or the benefits are overridden by the costs.1/2

       @khm @kunev @mcc Signal, for all of its flaws (and I definitely count centralized among those flaws, along with requiring a phone number), is a good app. It largely works, protects my information, doesn't collect shit, is open source, and takes on the big guys with way less funding. Maybe let's not shit on the one messaging app to take on vastly shittier alternatives and actually *succeed* (to some extent) with normies?2/2

       @nina_kali_nina The thing is, despite all of that, Firefox is still the best browser. That's honestly the saddest part of all. Everything else has gotten _so much worse_ that *being able to disable AI integration* (which you can do in Firefox) is somehow the best option.
