@davidrevoy Hmm I wonder if you could open a portal to slightly underground on a cold planet.Then, as long as you can stop the rock from flowing through the portal (which should be easy if it's only slightly underground and therefore under low pressure), your unwanted heat will be absorbed by the cold rock.

@gamingonlinux I suspect the only ones who think Mastodon isn't worth posting on are influencers looking to get paid for grabbing people's attention, which kinda isn't possible on a site that runs on donations and has no ads.I daresay we are better for their loss.

@davidrevoy Somebody needs to brush up on her ice and wind spells. Hot weather's no trouble when you've got a big block of ice in your house and a firm breeze circulating the air around.Fun fact: some large buildings have huge blocks of ice in their basements, which they generate by freezing water with refrigeration powered by cheap nighttime electricity. The ice is then used to cool the building during the day. This will probably go away when solar power becomes more common, but still neat.

@ariadne Since when did you have any obligation to any of them, anyway? You never promised anybody that your code would be free of bugs. “NO WARRANTY” is in every FOSS license ever. If they want a warranty, they're gonna have to pay you for one.And if they threaten to violate responsible disclosure, well, that's on them if they do that.@vathpela

@ariadne #Linux kernel has been doing the same lately. Deleting little-used code rather than fixing its bugs, that is.I understand why they'd do that, of course, but it does make me a little sad that you can no longer run a modern operating system on retro hardware. Being able to do that was pretty neat. Not, like, life-essential or anything, but neat.@HaTetsu

@ariadne If pneumatic mechanisms are okay but electrically-powered ones are not, I don't even know what to tell you.If you're going with the spirit of the law, then activating a powered machine of any kind, or at least making non-trivial effort to do so, is forbidden.If you're going with the letter of the law, then neither of those involves fire. Pneumatics is based on fluid pressure and electricity is artificial lightning.
