       So android has this thing where the call volume also effects the volume of typing, bleeps when sending messages, camera shutters etc, and I absolutely cannot handle these noises.Apparently, if you want to not miss calls and not want these noises, you have to individually turn off all these noises for all your apps and all new apps you install. I tried this a couple of times, but each after thinking I got everything, 10 min later, I find out I missed something. After which I wanna throw my phone across the room. I then rage quit, turn off call volume, and miss important calls again.Does anyone know a workaround / solution for this? Like maybe a dialer app that lets you set it to call on alarm volume or something like that?#askfedi #android

       currently considering options like modifying and compiling a dialer app (probably easier said than done), and buying a dumbphone just for calls

       @brettm unfortunately, I don't think that will work. My phone already has those separate sliders, and I also tried some apps which gives me slightly more control. But from what I understand, they are genuinely on the ring sound category, and will therefore change with the ring volume.From what I have heard, this is because the ring volume was originally the only volume category on android, and I guess therefore now also the default, and therefore any volume without a category will end up under ring volume.

       @cheri the discord situation seems so crazy to me. They seem to be one of the few big social platforms that actually manage to get people to pay them (or at least, I see a disturbing high number of discord nitro users around). It just feels like they would have such an easy time carving out an image closer to what valve has if they actually cared somehow

       Anyone know of a cheap-ish electronic indicator which only uses power when it switches state, and does not need a complex microcontroller like a full on e-ink display does. I guess in a way I am looking for a single e-ink pixel.Another thing that could work for my purposes is some latching switch which can be electrically unlatched (and also only uses power when doing this) I am planning to have it reset with a button press anyways.I guess I could 3d print some bistable mechanism which is resettable with an electromagnet, but I would prefer something off the shelf, and even more prefer something smd solderable.#electronics #askfedi
