@mwl My OCD requires me to point out that in Robert Heinlein's "The Door Into Summer" (1957?), he invented the robot vacuum. Great descriptions of features no modern version has.But still no mention of corners, alas.Maybe these vacuums should include a sort-of leaf-blower function: When you hit a corner, blast it with air to move the debris out to where you can get it.

@mwl Back in the days of classic animation, Disney (and the rest) hired armies of "tweeners" to grind out the cels between the key frames which the master animators did. These folks worked long hours for little pay in something like sweat-shop conditions.I'm glad we now have Diffusion to take over that work and free artists to do more creative work.

The Bureau of Dangerous Goods. This actually exists. Every time I see this logo, I am tickled at how wonderful that name is. Some people are just damned good at naming things.FWIW, this is a company which specializes in compliance. If you have to ship something considered hazardous, these folks can ensure you do it correctly. Which is worth money.Someone needs to make a movie about this. "Dangerous" could mean just about anything a clever writer wanted to write about.@mwl

@mwl I'll say this: If the rest of government worked as well as the Passport office, we'd be living in a paradise.People seem to have a hard time spelling my name, and my DL, SS card, and birth certificate are all spelled differently. But the passport folks nailed it first time. And seem to have one goal: Getting it to you in time for your trip. Even for goat abusers. ;)

@Gargron I'll give you my short rant. People never wanted computers. Even after VisiCalc, even after AOL. Most people wanted to stay away from them.At some point, as the field matured, we created systems that 1) did not require the user to learn anything, 2) would run on your phone, and 3) allowed them to yak at their friends -- all the time.Social Media is what killed the Internet.</rant>

@mwl You have my sympathies. I've been through my own divorce. I found a good lawyer, by which I mean someone who didn't try to start fights so they could make more money. And he was able to arrange things in a way that solved two of my moral dilemmas without causing any issues for her.But there were tears, nonetheless.

@The_Whore_of_Blahbylon In the USA, the law allows banks to hold funds for 72 hours, and longer if it's an external deposit.So Bank of America will pull funds from my checking account, then wait 3 days before depositing them into my BofA credit card account. Yep. *Internal Transfers* get held for 72 days. Because they can, and because they get 3 days' interested on my money.I only have a CC account because I found out that the debit card co only works 8-5, M-F, Eastern Time.
