       I just moved instances (thanks to @akkartik and @neauoire), so I owe y’all an #introduction!I’m Artyom, programmer & artist. My main fascinations are Turing completeness, esolangs, stuplime programming, & emergent phenomena.Identity-wise, I go by queer undecided/bisexual, but it’s complicated.I’m (situationally?) disabled in that my attention span and ability to focus/grasp complex concepts are severely depleted.Lewd, NSFW, gore, and absurdist posts allowed.        I realized I never elaborated on my nickname anywhere.So once upon a time, when I was a Russian kid who’s into HOMELAND HISTORY, I found a list of Soviet “true socialist” names. Something like Vilen (V.I.LENin) etc. There was one I liked—Artaka (Academy of artillery, ironically for a pacifist like me.) It’s a female name (hidden trans leanings anyone?), but it has a nice sound to it.So when I matured and got to the point of signing up for Github, the name sprung up to my mind. [1/2]

       #TIL (not really, I knew about it for some time) about Kaktovik numerals <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaktovik_numerals>, and I like their graphicality and ease of arithmetics. @neauoire it reminds me of the intersection-based multiplication example on your wiki article about paper computing. Any chance you'd be interested in Kaktovik numerals?

       I realized that I need no notebooks, todos, calendars, nor #wiki. Thus my surprise at people making elaborate #Obsidian systems, using smart topic-based indexing, or maintaining a digital garden.Because my workflows are artifact-based, uni-dimensional, and queued. I either produce an artifact (be it blog post, piece of software, or an art piece) right now. Or I don’t. And if I need to do something, then there’s an (often physical) artifact reminding me of that. It’s not a structured #TODO, it’s an unread instant message awaiting an action. Or a scrap of paper with LAUNDRY in huge letters lying on my table. Or a call someone will make me in the future.I peddle in evocative images and scraps, not in bullet lists and weekly charts.Am I misunderstanding life or am I too privileged to not need a calendar?

       So if I move to #Gregg #shorthand for my writing, #Kaktovik numbers for calculations, start using a Commonplace book and physical #Zettelkasten notes, will I have any chance against digitized workflows’ speed? I actually want to try that life to see how far computerless life can get one.Spreadsheets on paper anyone?        @neauoire how do you go from a ternary gate value to its function, e.g. -6 to INC in https://wiki.xxiivv.com/site/ternary_logic.html?I’m not sure this is explained anywhere, but it seems quite important to the argument. Is it some kind of ternary gate configuration that’s expressed by a number? Or is it an operation-encoding convention?

       This Low Tech magazine post on marine navigation <https://solar.lowtechmagazine.com/2008/01/satellite-navigation-in-the-18th-century/> perfectly mirrors my worries about tech propaganda and digital-only services. I cannot simply use pen and paper anymore, because I have to have OTP codes, electronic registration, GPS, dedicated service apps, NFC cards, and whatnot. Analogue alternatives to these are being phased out, to the detriment of privacy, resilience, and healthy system redundancy. I don’t like that.

       Are aluminum keys a thing? I think that they might be cheap enough for hostels and hotels to use as disposable, but I’m not sure if they are as easy to produce in the aluminum material part, compared to steel?

       Just a quick #security heads-up: in case you’re avoiding #vim and use #vi on some modern #Linux distro, make sure that vi does not actually point to vim. Arch Linux recently changed vi to be an alias to Vim in traditional mode. I assume it’s the same for other distros.Stay safe y’all!

       Folx, what are the easiest ways to create GUIs? I want to steal ideas from there for my own UI toolkit 🙃I don’t consider WYSIWYG/no-code editors for now, maybe later?I mean, HTML is one of the big things and is fun to play with, but we have to acknowledge downsides: non-immediateness of the syntax, need for JS for “rich” GUIs, and inability to speak to the system directly from HTML.#programming #GUI #HTML

       Finished Calvino’s Invisible Cities today, thanks to @neauoire ‘s recommendation. It’s a really inspiring book! The synopsis saying about fifty-something imagined cities undersells the book dramatically. It’s not about cities at all. It’s about states of mind that give birth to cities, both at an individual and social level. Extremely enriching experience.But, speaking favorite cities, mine were:• City as seen by a reminiscing old man• City hanging over the rift, in impermanence• Cities that don’t have borders—there were several, and I didn’t really get the difference, but the idea of feeling infinitely lost is nice!Of course, with the associated affects: FOMO, fatalism, displacement.#theLibrary
