       @ireneista @kirakira a few distros have already excluded California and other jurisdictions with similar requirements from their license.  I guess we’ll see if that ever makes it to court, but while I can imagine California could punish a user I don’t see how they could go after the OS publisher

       @itsfoss the thing I’m going to miss most going from Mac to Linux is the “command” key; having cmd+c as the universal keystroke for “copy” that does not conflict with ctrl+c in the terminal is probably the most common but having all of that deconflicted has been really helpful

       @Athena I am suddenly less interested in their policy on LLMs and more interested in their policy on ethics.  Excluding ethical concerns as a basis for policy is what you do when you know your preferred policies are unethical.  Any project which accepts such an exclusion should be treated as a threat.

       @eff after having to call the cops on whoever was blasting music on the corner so loud that it was 90 decibels inside my apartment twice a week for months, I wish you had picked a different example to highlight.  Permanent ear damage and being unable to work on Mondays because it’s impossible to sleep at 90dB is not some minor problem that should be treated so dismissively.

       @IngaLovinde @johnmark @mcc I’m not familiar with either “kumon” or “Russian math” either, but IME in the U.S. assessing knowledge by an exhaustive presentation and Q&A is used for a Ph.D. thesis defense and almost nothing else.  It’s described as too expensive, and we would need to hire more teachers & professors to have enough teacher time per student to use it a lot more, but I think the current state of failing at education is much more expensive for society

       @itsfoss I’ve only used Ubuntu for virtual servers where available images are limited.  It’s too commercial for my personal use.But now that slop is allowed in the Linux kernel my next distribution will probably be of BSD

       @eff Even if creating a generative model is transformative, selling the use of one as a for-profit service to undercut creative artists is preventing the kind of creation that copyright was intended to foster.But since the generation of statistically similar outputs ensures that the further-derived generated outputs are minimally transformative of the sources, it’s misleading to describe the model itself as transformative.These services should be required to license their sources.
