@dangillmor Insanely huge crimes committed in near broad daylight. Policing of these criminals is near zero.But the government is a public institution created to serve the public. It is the public right to restart a systemically failing system. Of course, one thing the incumbents repeatedly do is protect their stay and make the public feel like they have no direct say at all. Ever.

@libreoffice Decades working in programming a pet hate was how very bad most coders were at documenting - the mindset was often 'if they cannot understand the code they should not be working on it'. Y2K date change work at IBM I actually worked on 5,000 line PL/1 modules from the 1960s with zero comments.

@Gargron I grew up in the 1970s and had a great childhood with many connections with no electronic devices except TV and radio.Phones can enable greater access but face to face is an order of magnitude different.

@gamingonlinux Sooner or later, all forms of chip manufacture will be leveraged more. Our species utterly dependent on something that is made in very few places by very expensive fabrication factories.We are all in a precarious state here and with the climate and with politics and AI ... it all looks pretty bad.

@Gargron Real world user interface design is a fascinating subject. VAST numbers of shop doors with a pull handle that must be pushed - it is there for 1 use a day - to pull the door shut when the shop is shut.

But it fails to describe this incremental obsessive steering towards the latter.Something that happens so often that we need to rethink how power/responsibility is handled. Across the planet.Our genetics often still operate with small, egalitarian community notions.
