       @azonenberg I'd highly recommend dropping grub in favor of either using Unified Kernel Images directly, or through systemd-boot. it's a much much better user experience. https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Unified_kernel_image

       @azonenberg that was just a recommendation in case you ever need to touch grub again. it has this pesky habit of requiring you to update the config from time to time. UKIs are nice because you can just point the UEFI firmware at them and the system will just boot.

       @azonenberg might not be super relevant if you're just setting up a testing instance, but if you want to setup disk encryption and secure boot, it makes a real difference 😅

       on a similar note, if you do anything with lasers, pleaseee get proper laser glasses. I know they are expensive, but you absolutely do not want to burn your retina, don't play with that shit. I'd highly recommend https://www.noirinsight.com/ as a supplier, they are very reasonably priced and trustworthy. I am also pretty sure they are the OEM for thorlabs.

       @azonenberg yeah, I have a Continuum Minilite II, which I want to put on a Mitutoyo FS-60 head, for laser ablation. at 532nm, it does 25mJ in 3ns, which is... uh... scary

       @azonenberg yeah, ~8MW peak power, and it can do it up to 15Hz. even stray partial reflections can be blinding. I see people using these kind of sources with regular frame glasses, and it freaks me the tf out. I have some NoIR DBY-60, which are the wrap around style. the DBY filter also covers all of the Nd:YAG harmonics, in case any somehow leak out 🙈
