@LadyMont It might be fun, but it's also part of a bigger picture that's deeply unpleasant. He's a symptom of the state of academe, not a cause. I'd feel a bit sorry for him for the pile on, except that I think he knew what he was doing and was happy to be the beneficiary of the rot. I'm sure he'll pop up again in a few months with a gig in the *consultancy* or QUANGO sector, and he'll milk the *it's not me it's you because racism - duh* cow for as long as he can because there'll always be a market for that. We've known for a long time that academe has devolved into a Ponzi scheme, a grift, a cycle of self-referential nonsense, and a means of putting truly terrible ideas into public life through credentialed activism. This is the real problem. But when there are a lot of people whose careers, income, power and status depend on this set up we'll have the devil's own job to sort it out.

@HebrideanHecate This is interesting.I thought she would lie low for a bit, then quietly get shunted into a consultancy or other grift (my money was on the UN as a woman's advocate or the WHO as pandemic planning). Why stir the shit and draw attention to herself and not in a good or sympathetic way either?We shall see.

@LadyMont This is why we have safeguarding. Safeguarding means never assuming that it couldn't happen. Safeguarding means never thinking that it couldn't be that person. Safeguarding means never giving anyone a free pass. Safeguarding is remembering that those who would harm the vulnerable will often go to great lengths to gain access. I don't for one minute think that all men are a risk to children. But we would be foolish to assume that they never are. Good safeguarding prevents as much as it can and stops this behaviour as soon as it can. This is not just criminal, but a betrayal of trust. It causes harm and poisons the well. Thank goodness he was caught before this escalated into something even nastier. Those poor children.

@brendamccann I am very disturbed by the idea that we should actively support some who kill their children, male or feamle. Those who do deserve a defence in court (as do we all) but not special treatment. If their defence involves mitigating circumstances then these should be dealt with as part of the defence and sentencing. If judges are applying the law unequally then the problem lies with the judges and should be addressed.
