In my opinion, had people just let it go and said nothing about it,
it would not have been a spoiler. Only by vociferously pointing out
how crucial a command this have you caused potential players to
realize its importance. I could explain more clearly but only by
being more spoilery. (Which is not to say I approve of the original
post, but I seriously think this is a case where taking it to email
would have had the least harmful effect.)

For what it's worth, instead of worrying about hypothetical,
potential spoilers, I'd be more concerned about the 1999 XYZZY
ifMUD awards transcript you have posted on your own web site,
which spells out the hard part of the puzzle and which did in
practice and truth and real life ruin it for me. (The transcript
even includes an after-the-fact spoiler warning from Rob.)
