Since Infocom promised a free trip to the planet that Suspended was set
on to anyone who completed the game in impossible mode, I think it's safe
to say it was a joke, especially since the nova happened in three or four
moves, no matter what you did. If I remember right, though, the 
hint booklet did have a section on whether you could win the impossible
mode and the final clue was something like "of course not, it's impossible!"
