I'm saying I never installed anything Java-related myself, yet my IE6
installation runs Java quite happily.

No; but then, what standard plugin API? The Netscape standard plugin API?
It doesn't have to; why should it? Arguing that it should because then
it'll run Netscape plugins is akin to arguing that Linux/BSD/BeOS/OS/2 ought
to support the Win32 API and vice versa. It's based around different
technologies so perhaps only supporting a API which could well be more
suited to the way IE works is a good thing. Then again, I happen to like IE
and find it's a nicer browser both to use and author pages for (cf. Netscape
4's shockingly poor CSS implementation).

I prefer not to make allegations about such things; it's not crippled just
because it supports a different set of interfaces. And since the plugin
interface is documented for IE, there can be no monopoly, surely?

Anyway, arguing the toss about browsers and Microsoft is not why I started
lurking in this group... I merely pointed out that IE does actually seem to
support Java here.
