Notes for Ann Bush:
- 1780, July, Ann and her sister Mary were attacked by Indians Ann was captured and later rescued by a company of militia in what is now Floyd County, KY, at Jenny’s Creek. Ann was scalped. “Pension Statement of James Fraley” “I enlisted as an Indian Spy under Col. Campbell in April 1780. Ear;y in June the Indians made their appearance in Washington County. First they stole many horses. In July they killed one Dorton and stole two girls, Ann and Mary Bush, and made off for Canada.
They seceded in getting down the water of the Sandy with them as far as Jenny’s Creek. Our company came up on the Indians as they were skinning a buffalo. Our men fired on the Indians and they retreated to the camp about 200 yards, distant. As they ran by they tomahawked Ann Bush. Mary jumped down the bank and escaped any violence.” This incident is also described in “The Great Wagon Road”; author Parke Rouse Jr., pg 123.
