In this role you will provide strategic leadership, guidance and oversight for the school’s research strategy and execution. Working collaboratively across the University, you will lead the school’s broader capability in securing competitive research funding and generating high-quality outputs by creating programs to support emerging researchers, as well as providing oversight of the supervision of higher degree candidates. You will also lead our school’s industry aligned research centre: The Centre for Design Innovation (CDI). This is a unique opportunity to drive a dynamic, solutions-led research centre towards its next phase of growth by reimagining what we do and how we do things in alignment with the broader University’s vision as Swinburne advances towards 2030. As a key member of the School Executive Committee, this role carries responsibility for the overall research performance of SoDA, encompassing both the outputs of the Centre and the continued development of the School’s broader research capabilities. We are seeking a strategic thinker and inspiring leader who is passionate and ready to make a lasting impact. About You To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities: An outstanding national and international track record of research in design, architecture or other areas related to a design discipline. Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and manage multidisciplinary research projects and high performing teams in Design and Architecture fields. Strong interpersonal and relationship skills and demonstrated ability to influence relevant senior executives across the University to shape change and impact policy and process design that suits the needs of the school. A significant track record in attracting external research income through competitive grants and/or industry collaboration. Established links with relevant industries, organisations and research communities and demonstrated competence in working with relevant professions in industry and/or government. Demonstrated experience in contributing to policy debates about design including through media and other public forums would be an advantage. Qualifications An earned doctoral qualification in design or associated field relevant to design - i.e. Architecture or Urban Design.
