Sunday Morning Open Thread with Some Autumn-Related Songs [1] ['Ice Blue', 'Chitown Kev', 'Chloris Creator'] Date: 2026-10-11 Good morning, crew. Today’s title about sums up today’s music. But first, the obligatory housekeeping: Welcome to Morning Open Thread, with daily posts from a MOTley crew of hosts who choose their own topics from a wide-open range: often music or poetry, sometimes history — anything and everything from Apples to Zoology! We support our community, invite and share ideas, and encourage thoughtful, respectful dialogue in our open forum. That’s a feature, not a bug. Other than that, site rulz rule. Meanwhile, grab your cuppa, and join in! It’s definitely Autumn here in central Wisconsin, though you’d have a tough time sensing it. We are in the middle of a warm weekend. It was in the low eighties yesterday. That’s around twenty degrees above normal. Yet in one short week the local weatherman says we have a chance of snow. He says we can relax, though. If we do get snow, it won’t stick. The ground is much too warm. Since our trees are quickly approaching peak colors, when I look out my bedroom window, I see two mature oak trees in their different Fall shades. The first and my opinion, most colorful is a species of white oak called Scarlet Oak. Its leaves have nearly completely changed over to deep, blood red. There is a tree next to it that’s called a red oak. This one is rapidly switching to bright yellow. Does that make sense? I know, lumping them into the white oak/red oak categories doesn’t make much unless you look at the properties of their respective woods. Raw red oak does have a wee bit more russet color to it than white oak. Ergo, the names. Personally, however, I prefer white oak. It’s substantially more resistant to weathering and rot. It also finishes beautifully. I’m off to make some apple streusel muffins with home grown apples. We’re always looking for new diarists whether to assume weekly duties or for a one shot deal. Contact either officebss or Ozarkblue if you’re interested. Now on with the tunes. So what’s on your mind this morning?
