Project 2029 [1] ['Uncle Tom', 'Thom Hartmann', 'Chitown Kev'] Date: 2026-10-10 When we finally rid ourselves of our national disgrace, there will be a lot of work needed to start rebuilding our country. Having given some thought to the process of moving forward, here are 10 suggestions I feel are especially important. Treaty with Iran. This needs to be at the top of the priority list. The best way to begin to rebuild our global image is to take the appropriate steps toward correcting this huge mistake. This should also include an extradition treaty to allow Iran to extradite war criminals to stand trial in Iran. (It is clear they will never face justice in this country, so let the aggrieved party meet out justice in their own country.) Also, reinstate the original Iran Nuclear Treaty. Work with all of the countries that have been slighted by Trump’s tariff wars and slandering of foreign leaders. There are many fences to mend and we need to work on those global relationships as quickly as possible. Begin work on reducing the unbelievably massive national debt that has been placed upon the country by Trump and other Republican administrations. The first step would be to remove ALL tax loopholes for the wealthy and return to the Income Tax structure that was implemented by Dwight Eisenhower. (You know, back when America was “Great”.) Systematically reverse the effects of ALL of Trump’s “Executive Orders”, because not a single one actually served any purpose except to stroke his ego and inflict harm upon the people. All of his tariffs need to be lifted immediately. Carefully rebuild the East Wing of the White House to restore it to its original stately grandeur. Additionally, any repairs that need to be made to the Reflecting Pool and the Kennedy Center should be carried out by qualified, bonded contractors. Obviously the cost for this should be borne by the various business and property holdings of Donald Trump. Additionally, any contractors who were involved in these projects, without obtaining the proper permits, should have their licenses revoked. Members of the Trump family who participated in the many schemes and cons which engorged their own bank accounts should have their properties and accounts seized as proceeds from criminal enterprise. Any forfeiture should be liquidated to reduce the national debt. Reunite as many members of families that were torn apart by the inhumane ICE sweeps and detention centers, including providing compensation for the trauma they were put through. Members of Trump’s “advisory” group should be prosecuted for their parts in the many crimes committed under the guise of “enforcing national security”. In particular, this should apply to such people as Stephen Miller, the primary architect of the immoral and disgusting ICE sweeps that have caused death and misery across the nation. Steps should be taken to address the deportations to various “hellhole” prison facilities of people who were never convicted of any crime. Review all of Trump’s appointments to various offices, both domestic and abroad. If there are any of them who seem remotely qualified for their positions, they can stay. Otherwise, they all get replaced as quickly as practicable. This is especially true of any members of his extended family. Re-hiring, or hiring replacements for, the many qualified people who were needlessly purged by DOGE. In the long term, there also needs to be changes to how we think as a country. It is clear that too many Americans have not been exposed to some classes that used to be required for high school graduation. We used to call them “Civics” or “Social Studies”. While some states do still have a requirement for such a class, it may only be for a single semester, and may only cover some highlights. We are in the position in which we find ourselves today, largely because too many of us have no clue about what our democracy is really about. Not understanding the Constitution is what led us to January 6th. Failing to accept the separation of powers doctrine of the Constitution is a prime cause of much of the mess Trump has been able to create. In short, we need to insure that EVERYONE understands how it is supposed to work and works to make it work right. This begins with the education part. No American should be able to graduate high school without a good understanding of why invading the US Capitol and assaulting police officers is not appropriate behavior. When we start focusing more on gender and sexual orientation and less on how Americans are supposed to behave, then we can expect what we have seen recently to reoccur. The other long term issues are possibly more difficult. The first issue is the legislative branch, which has ignored its duties and allowed Trump to violate the Constitution at his every turn. When politicians are allowed to become more focused on party politics than they are on their constitutional duties and responsibilities, then there is something systemically wrong in our legislative branch. Fifty-one people should not have the ability to disregard the most important document in our country, and corrupt everything we hold dear in our lives and our country. The second concerns the judicial branch, which has twisted the constitution to fit their own political agendas; and bigotry. Five people in black robes should not be able to interpret the Constitution based upon their own prejudices, instead of common sense and logic. The Supreme Court was never intended to mold the Constitution to their thinking. It was supposed to be the final arbiter of justice; the last opportunity for petitioners who had been denied justice in lower courts, to finally get a hearing at a tribunal which was supposed to represent the purest interpretation of the law and apply it fairly and evenly. There is a single solution to both of these issues. Weed out the bad apples. This is where Americans have an opportunity to really make a difference. Vote the corrupt bastards out of office. There is no reason to assume that they will behave any differently that we have seen them behave in the past. Have your legislators write laws to limit terms of Supreme Court justices. If they had a term limit of 20 years, Roberts, Thomas, and Alito would be gone already. Keep in mind that MAGA’s have already been working diligently for over 6 years to destroy America and democracy; and they are still hard at it. The fix is not going to happen overnight, nor will it be easy or painless. The MAGA culture of ignoring any law or ethic that is inconvenient to them is going to make repairing the damage a monumental task; but, if we are going to save America, we have to dig in and get to it. We will need to use the kind of grit and determination that brought us from the Great Depression to victory in WWII. That victory was the result of millions of Americans, working together for the common good, and we can do it again. It is time to unite and fight as if our country depends upon it; because, in reality, it does.
