REM

I absolutely loved REM. Now to be clear there is a lot of their material that I’m not familiar with- and perhaps as expected I really enjoy the music from the time period I discovered them .

I was fortunate to see them at the Centrum in Worcester Mass, a big venue. My concert going friend and I had missed them in their club days.

we enjoyed them from the nose bleed seats – but stipes lyrics seemed deliberately incomprehensible. Still – a good show.

Studio albums

Theme

Great American Bands.

‘that’s it!

addendum

quick story. Over dinner my walking partner was telling us about his summer deciphering a set of love letters sent from his great grandmother to his great grandfather in the 1870s.

wonderful long hand writing in pencil that survived in excellent shape.

he was using Google to help figure some of it, confirming train routes (it was a long distance romance) and common nicknames and was amazed at how much detail he was able to confirm.

so he decided to pump in his grand fathers name. Boom he got a hit to a postcard(s) his grandfather had published in the early 1900s. Whut? Postcards? He assumes he published the cards to sell at his newspaper stand.

A postcard was for sale.

He bought it.

‘when it arrived he was shocked to see it had been used to write a note to his great grandmothers sibling from his grandmother.

The same woman whose elegant love letters had caused him to find the post card!

I got a run

-be good and love one another.
