Kitchen Table Kibitzing: Favorite Dog Photos [1] ['Greg Dworkin', 'Mark Sumner'] Date: 2026-10-08 A year ago today I made the decision to put my dog Aggie Pocket to sleep. She had canine cognitive dysfunction. Things had been going rapidly downhill over the last month of her life. She was to the point where she was having seizures and agitated even during her walks. Still, I was conflicted about the decision and to this day I still think about it with doubts. Just six weeks after Aggie passed, feeling crippled by grief, I decided to foster. Maisie came into my life on November 22nd, having been driven to Redwood City from the Stanislaus shelter that morning. She filled that part of my life that a dog does, and because I got her so soon I lost access to the grieving part of my self. It is hard to remember Aggie. This morning a memory on my FB feed was a short video of Aggie running at Crissy Field beach in San Francisco and so I decided to drive in with Maisie for her very first trip to the ocean. She was at first incredulous and racing along the sand making sure to keep her distance from the waves. But then she latched onto a huge blackbird on the shore and chased it into the water well past the breaking surf. She swam back to shore, looking quite confused. A great outing and fitting to pay homage to Miss Pocket who for 13 1/2 years visited Crissy Field regularly. It was one of her favorite places in her dog world. I thought I would post some photos of here this evening as a remembrance but can’t for the life of my figure out how to do that. I miss you Aggie Pocket. Too many to pick from but this one is up there. — David Jones (@ozhillbilly.bsky.social) 2026-10-07T00:48:25.435Z Lots of favs, but his being unfazed by the Grand Tetons is just so him, and fits with the vibe of this thread. — Pam Portland, novelist and blogger (@pamportland.org) 2026-10-07T08:18:12.292Z Our last camping trip with the lady.
