Hegseth thinks a firing squad execution is entertainment [1]

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth spoke with antisemitic right-wing conspiracy theorist Jack Posobiec aboard the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln on Thursday. The podcaster asked him about this week’s announcement that President Donald Trump has approved the execution by firing squad of Nidal Hasan, a former U.S. Army major and Medical Corps psychiatrist found guilty of killing 13 people in a 2009 shooting at Fort Hood, Texas.

Calling it a “no-brainer,” Hegseth couldn’t contain his eagerness to see Hasan executed.

“Of course we’re going to do it at Fort Hood. We’re going to do it on a Thursday [Dec. 3], we’re going to do it at 1 o’clock—which is when he did it, and it’s going to be soldiers with rifles executing the firing squad.”

Noting that the United States has not used firing squads since World War II, Hegseth delved further into his war fetish.

“I kind of like the mentality we had in World War II, which was ‘win,’” he added. “And we’ll make sure that people are able to watch it, that it’s public, because people need to understand that there’s serious consequences for these types of things.”

Pentagon officials confirmed that the execution will be livestreamed.

Thanks to his talent for serving up softball questions and his tacit acceptance of white supremacist reasoning, Posobiec has been the preferred right-wing roving “reporter” among the Trump administration and dirtbags like Hegseth.

But Posobiec failed to ask any follow-up questions about whether the underlings Hegseth blamed for ordering a strike that killed survivors of a fishing-boat bombing in the Caribbean Sea are facing consequences for alleged war crimes.
