They Always Do It Backwards [1]

It seems to me as an armchair criminologist, that if you are going to do something illegal, immoral or shameful (yes, that was a thing once), you should be planning your caper from the get away first. Doesn’t matter whether or not you’re successful, you attempt it they will be coming for you.

A recent documentary stated that Butch Cassidy did it right, planning his escape first, but the whole ‘wild west’ thing has become so troped out that it’s hard to know what might actually be true. Ever wonder how many ‘cowboys’ in ‘cowboy country’ have ever ridden a horse? All of them? Most of them? Some of them? I never shelled out for the whole cowboy uniform but I did own a pair of cowboy boots once. Not recommended for icy sidewalks. Cowboy crampons? I digress.

Now we have all of Trump’s family and all of Trump’s friends engaged in behavior we find reprehensible (illegal, immoral etc.), and with the midterms about to be fraudulently fixed by the Republicans, Evangelicals, Fascists, Russians and Chinese (and the Israelis and the Iranians and the who knows who else), will any of them have a careful, well planned exit strategy? Of course they’ll all need one. Don’t you watch political ads? Everyone who runs for public office is a scumbag, a traitor or a thief (and helping them makes you one by association). It says so on TV and the net, it must be true.

I’m not a hardened criminal (I did steal a candy bar when I was five, but Bruce dared me to, peer pressure is a powerful tool for filling jails), but I would think that taking a job on Fox is probably not the best way to hide out. Unless you are good and sure that the law is on your side because even the Supreme Court is bought and paid for.

Whoa there, Man O’ War. If the law is corrupt, if felonious behavior is the norm, maybe being goodie-goodie is the real crime. Maybe being outraged at the disgusting absence of virtue is illegal, immoral and shameful. Should we be the ones with the carefully planned exit strategy?

What is the world coming to?! Oh, right, climate Armageddon. Never mind.
