The Motley Schedule Sunday: Ice Blue Monday: officebss Today: RandomNeuron Wednesday: youffraita Thursday : eeff eeff Friday: DHM Saturday: RandomNeuron I was streaming youtube over the weekend and happened across Station to Station, the album by David Bowie. It got me thinking. First off it had several great songs. But i wasn’t sure what Bowie “era” it was part of. He famously adopted different personas and fashion sense over his career and i so i got curious. And Here we are. David Jones got his start in a couple of bands you likely have never hear of ( i had not) and was definitely a “mod” in his pre Bowie period. See? Thats him on the right. Before there was Bowie. https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4bWTJFI-FoeSvFy_sYRt5sRtstwbWOJ7Gu7m8BIQbgkafVrFrXcG1bd1frS_kmVCnftJ6jId31OUZ7Nw-f5XjGxEjmgMHy-N8jpG9jbvLW-Pvk0pZUcdo9R17hEYcWX3efBJFJHP6ASo/s1600/bowie+lower+third.jpg But as one reviewer put it, there is a reason no-one recalls those efforts under his own name – they were not that good. He was finding his voice. As Bowie he found it. Goodness! did he ever. He was a prolific guy. Cranked out 25 Albums including one released 2 days before he passed. Not counting collaborations, movies and the the rest. But his most memorable burst of creativity came early. Its also was the time when his personas and styles came quickly and were nothing if not gender fluid. Of course that prompted questions. Over the years he declared himself gay, although he had been married and had a child. and then bi-sexual. and in what i think is a perfect quote: “I think I was always a closet heterosexual.” — David Bowie Anywho i was going to do a photo montage of his changing persona and fashion but much of the iconic images are copyrighted and such. So i opted to do music, and that led to our old favorite. Album covers. I dont think slogging through 25 albums would be much fun so i narrowed it down, leaving off the last half of his career which i was entirely unfamiliar with… and i expect most of you are unfamiliar with as well But Its still 12 albums. Which is good because next week i’ll be on the road traveling. So I’m splitting this in two and calling it done. Next week Bowie II will, scheduling gods allowing, be the tuesday MOT.
