Friday Night Beer Blog [1] ['Gary Turner', 'Thom Hartmann', 'Bill In Portland Maine', 'Greg Dworkin'] Date: 2026-09-18 Happy Friday beer fans! O’zapft is! My favorite holiday season has started! Music: Because it’s Oktoberfest I have to start with a song that IMO should have been on the Top 100 list. I understand why Barstool Mountain stuck to American songs for their list, but the Hofbräuhaus-Lied might be the best known drinking song in the world and MANY thousands of people will be singing it in Munich for the next couple of weeks. Now continuing our countdown of Barstool Mountain’s Top 100 Drinking Songs: the title drink esquimaux #42 — One Mint Julep – Sarah Vaughan “One mint julep… was the cause of it all.” Great singer, great band, fun uptempo tune. I count five songs in the list that name a specific cocktail, we’ve already heard “Rum and Coke” and “Margaritaville”. Beer News: Another Bay Area landmark bites the dust: Berkeley’s Triple Rock Brewery will close by the end of the year: After 40 years and more than 10 million pints served, Berkeley’s Triple Rock Brewery and Ale House — America’s oldest continuously operating brewpub — is set to close. Opened in 1986 by brothers John and Reid Martin, Triple Rock has long been a cornerstone of both the Berkeley community and the craft beer movement. It’s where the great beer minds behind beloved and bygone breweries like 21st Amendment, Steelhead Brewing Co. and Marin Brewing all cut their teeth, but also where generations of Berkeley students got their first round of beers, and maybe even their second round of beers, too. Younger brother John Martin is also co-owner of Drake’s Brewing. I ran this last week and it didn’t sound like any Bay Area readers were inclined to come out, but I’ll keep announcing my gigs anyway. I’ll be playing at several of the Fieldwork Brewing locations around the Bay Area for their Oktoberfest events over the next few weekends. Come out for oompah music and Festbier! All performances are noon to 3pm. Saturday Sept 19: Fieldwork Berkeley Sunday Sept 20: Fieldwork Mission Rock Saturday Sept 26: Fieldwork San Mateo Sunday Sept 27: Fieldwork San Leandro Saturday Oct 3: Fieldwork Mission Rock Sunday Oct 4: Fieldwork San Ramon I’ve got Hazy Little Thing to start, then probably a cocktail. What are you drinking? Anyone brewing?
