One thing that stands out about Trump are his numerous grandiose promises. As Democrats, we need to remind the voters about these promises and hold the 34 time convicted felon to account for these promises. We can’t count on the “liberal” mainstream media to remind the voters. Amnesia is the ally of the GOP. Trump’s promises are back in the news because he recently made his most ridiculous promise of all — he has promised every adult citizens a $5,000 check if the Republicans win the election. The proposal was widely panned across the political spectrum, including some elected Republicans. Nebraska’s members of Congress were silent. I have an offer for any Trump supporter. This will be a test of your belief in Trump’s many promises. I will sign over my $5,000 dollar payment from Trump to the first person to send me $2,500 dollars before the election. You can double your money. If you are an ardent Trump supporter, this is the deal of the century. I want to hear from you! This habit of making ludicrous promises began when Trump first ran for president in 2016. We all remember that he promised that Mexico would pay for the wall. An April 2016 Trump campaign memo stated: “It’s an easy decision for Mexico: make a one-time payment of $5–10 billion to ensure that $24 billion continues to flow into their country year after year.” This same memo indicated that Trump believed it would only take Mexico three days to pay for the wall! That memo has since been deleted from the Trump campaign website. On the campaign trail, promises that Mexico would pay for the wall were a regular staple of the Trump campaign stump speech. It has been estimated that Trump promised something like 200 times that Mexico would pay for the wall. For example, on August 31, 2016, Trump promised: “ “Mexico will pay for the wall, 100 percent. They don’t know it yet, but they’re going to pay for it.” Trump’s most ridiculous and incredible promises in 2016 were on health care. In a 60 Minutes interview, Trump promised to insure “everybody.” Trump also promised “great health care at a tiny fraction of the cost” and said it would be so “easy.” He also promised to replace the Affordable Care Act with “something terrific.” During his first term, Trump and the GOP tried to ram through a bill in the middle of the night that would have taken away insurance from 20 million Americans and gutted pre-existing condition protections. The bill was killed in the Senate by one vote, thus preventing a humanitarian disaster. In 2025, the Republicans passed the big ugly bill that has already hiked insurance premiums by 100% for 22 million Americans and will take away insurance from 10 million Americans. And that’s not all. In 2016, candidate Trump promised he would eliminate the then $19 trillion national debt in 8 years. During his first term, Trump added $8 trillion to the national debt. Now his apologists will blame this on covid spending. However, Trump added $5 trillion to the national debt before the pandemic. During his second term, Trump and the Republicans have added $3.8 trillion to the national debt. The pattern of crazy promises were the centerpiece of Trump’s 2024 re-election campaign. Let’s take a trip down memory lane and remind everyone about them. “Inflation will vanish completely.” — At the Republican National Convention on July 18, 2024. “When I win the election, we will immediately begin a brand new Trump economic boom.” — August 14, 2024. “From the day I take the oath of office, we will rapidly drive prices down, and make America affordable again” — August 14, 2024 “Under my administration, we will be slashing energy and electricity prices by half within 12 months…” — August 14, 2024 “Prices will come down. You just watch: They’ll come down, and they’ll come down fast, not only with insurance, with everything.” — August 14, 2024. “When I win, I will immediately bring prices down, starting on Day One.”- August 15, 2024. The pattern of ridiculous Trump promises has continued into his disastrous second term. On no less than 15 occasions, Trump has promised a rebate or dividend check. Catherine Rampell of MSNow brings the receipts: “Since becoming president again, Trump has promised: -$5000 stimulus checks via “DOGE dividend” $2000 stimulus checks via “tariff dividend” -$1000+ checks via “savings” from expiring ACA subsidies -$5000 “dividend” if Rs win midterms no checks have been issued.” What is the status of Trump’s promises? Inflation was 2.9% in December 2024 and is now 3.5%. Quite frankly, I don’t believe the numbers since the price of most things have soared like a rocket since January 20, 2025. Trump did fire some civil servants last year after they issued a bad report on unemployment. The price of gas has increased 40% since Trump and the GOP attacked Iran. At the present time, gasoline prices are higher than $4 per gallon and diesel is over $6 per gallon. I paid $2.69 per gallon before this foolish war began. Higher gas and diesel prices have cost Americans an additional $100 billion since the Iran war began, according to a Brown University tracker. The only people who are better off since January 20, 2025 are the top 1% and Ghislaine Maxwell. Trump and the Republicans have kept their promise to keep the rich even richer. In addition, the Trump has increased his net worth by over $2 billion. What we must do as Democrats is remind the voters on a regular basis about these false promises and compare them to what Trump and the D.C. Republicans have actually delivered. We can’t count on the media to do it for us. If the voters are familiar with Trump and the GOP’s dishonesty and incompetence, we will win big again in 2026. Let’s get it done! A handful of Republicans in Congress could end this disaster today but they won’t. Trump isn’t on the ballot but you can vote out his enablers. MAGA means Morons Are Governing America.
