How Changing 2 Minds Could Save Our Democracy [1]

The Problem:

Trump’s low popularity ratings give Democrats hope of Blue Wave Midterm wins. But a President with unlimited powers could claim midterm victory, even if achieving it required massive voter disenfranchisement, intimidation, fraud, and violence.

And no matter how egregiously corrupt the elections,, Democrats would have little recourse without Judicial help.

Alas, “Trump Wants, Trump Gets” seems to be the SCOTUS motto. The Supreme Court dominated by his own nominees has repeatedly dismantled checks and balances that generations of Americans have taken for granted. Critics within the judiciary and legal community describe many of these decisions as hurried, unprecedented, poorly explained, secretive, inconsistent with long-established precedent, extremely partisan, and excessively deferential to presidential power.

The Possibility:

Occasionally a few Justices have voted their conscience. That took some courage. Trump and his allies had repeatedly attacked judges who ruled against the administration as “radical,” “corrupt,” or deserving impeachment, with judges and their families being subjected to hate mail, harassment, and explicit threats of violence.

On February 20, 2026, after losing the tariff case 6–3, Trump called Supreme Court justices who ruled against him “fools,” “lapdogs,” “unpatriotic,” and “disloyal,” accused the Court of being swayed by foreign interests, and singled out his own appointees Amy Coney Barrett and Neil Gorsuch by saying their decision was “an embarrassment to their families.” Critics regarded the family reference as especially dangerous or intimidating given the escalating threats to judges and their families,

A Possible Solution:

Occupy Wall Street accomplished nothing because they had no specific goals. But imagine hundreds or thousands of demonstrators, all day every day, even when court is not in session, outside the Supreme Court building, mocking and raising awareness of SCOTUS’s actions, and imploring them to do their sworn duty and restore our traditional checks and balances. Roberts, Gorsuch, Barret, and Kavanaugh have all voted against Trump at least once. If we can convince even 2 of Trump’s appointees to grow a spine or conscience, brave the risk of harm to themselves and their families, and decide to save our Democracy, they could do so by making critical 6-3 votes, 4-5. Or, if all 4 switched over, 2-7 (which might also lessen the risk of retribution to them and their families.)

Over our 250 years, millions of patriots have risked, even lost, their lives to allow our Democracy to exist. Maybe with your help, we could recruit at least 2 more, and give them the opportunity for History to say they were the ones who saved us from Autocracy and Fascism.
