Friday Night Beer Blog [1] ['Mark Sumner', 'Bill In Portland Maine'] Date: 2026-09-11 Hi beer fans, happy Friday! Music: Continuing our countdown of Barstool Mountain’s Top 100 Drinking Songs: #43 — Fifteen Beers – Johnny Paycheck Classic country from the ever-popular “woman done me wrong” category. Until I googled it I thought the song was going to be “Fifteen Beers Ago” by Sheb Wooley, which I heard years ago on the Dr. Demento radio show. You’ve heard the saying, “you don’t buy beer, you only rent it”. Beer News: News that might interest Bay Area readers at least: Beloved SF Giants broadcaster Mike Krukow, retiring at the end of the season, is getting his own beer from Fieldwork Brewing: As Fieldwork prepares for the grand opening of its taproom just across McCovey Cove from Oracle Park on Sept. 25, the brewery is unveiling a beer honoring Krukow. “Grab Some Pine, Meat” is a West Coast IPA that is named after the baseball catchphrase Krukow has brought to Giants broadcasts for decades now. Giants fans will often yell the phrase after a San Francisco pitcher strikes out an opposing batter, the proverbial “meat” who is heading back to the “pine” bench. The Fieldwork website doesn’t mention any “Grand Opening” of their very much open Mission Rock taproom, but this is SFGate. And speaking of Fieldwork Brewing, it’s almost Oktoberfest again and I’ll be playing at several of the Fieldwork locations over the next few weeks. Come out for oompah music and Festbier! All performances are noon to 3pm. Saturday Sept 19: Fieldwork Berkeley Sunday Sept 20: Fieldwork Mission Rock Saturday Sept 26: Fieldwork San Mateo Sunday Sept 27: Fieldwork San Leandro Saturday Oct 3: Fieldwork Mission Rock Sunday Oct 4: Fieldwork San Ramon I’m starting with Beach Crossing IPA from Pizza Port Brewing, Carlsbad CA, which I wish I had more of. 7.0% abv, nice bitterness, great tropical fruit flavors from all these hops: Mosaic, Mosaic Cryo, Mosaic HyperBoost, Strata, Strata CGX, NZ Cascade: Next is either German beer or a cocktail. What are you drinking? Is anyone brewing?
