Write On! What You Treasure [1]

Good evening, writers! I am at a little bit of a loss to think of what to write about tonight, but I was reminded by my local writing group, First Draft Detroit, that Talk Like a Pirate day is coming up in a little over a week on September 19. FDD is running a role-playing game and board game fundraiser that day, and so of course, it has a pirate theme.

Pirates make me think of treasure chests, but that also makes me think of treasure in other senses. We can talk about the people we treasure or places we treasure, maybe jobs and co-workers we treasure, and so on.

And the characters in our stories, what do they treasure, and how does it drive them to do what they do, or are they searching for more literal treasure?

Tonight’s Challenge

Write a scene that shows what the characters in it truly treasure, whether it be people, places, or things. Use the words chest, case, box, or trunk — but not necessarily in the sense of a physical container, unless that’s what you want to go for. Try to invoke at least three of the senses.
