GOP and Its Nazi Problem [1] ['Blue Choir Singer', 'Thom Hartmann', 'Greg Dworkin', 'Momma O'] Date: 2026-09-09 And the GOP’s Nazi Problem Continues– NY Republican Congressional Candidate Peter Oberacker Praised His Nazi Grandfather September 9, 2026 The GOP seems to have a continuing problem with Nazis. We see that from the top down. Demagogue/Dictator Donald, remember, in August 2017, called the neo-Nazi Charlottesville race rioters who killed Heather Heyer “very fine people.” And then there were the antisemitic pro-right wing chats uttered by a New York Young Republican group which that state organization had to disavow and disband. Even more shocking were the comments of North Carolina gubernatorial 2024 Mark Robinson who proudly called himself a “Black Nazi.” Although Donald carried N. Carolina by 3.4 percentage points in Campaign 2024, Tar Heel voters gave Democrat Josh Stein a “y uu ge’ 14% victory over Robinson at that same time. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Robinson_ Now, we have the Nazi/GOP issue emerging once again in the Empire State. GOPer Bruce Blakeman, who is running for NY Governor against incumbent Kathy Hochul in Campaign 2026, has campaigned at least three times alongside state senator and GOP candidate Peter Oberacker. Oberacker is running for NY’s 19th Congressional District where he hopes to defeat Democratic freshman Josh Riley in the November 2026 midterm. https://judgestreetjournal.substack.com/p/bruce-blakeman-campaigned-for-governor The problem? Oberacker had once praised his grandfather’s military service in the Wehrmacht, the Nazi Army. And he just recently deleted a Facebook post of his grandfather’s picture. In 2015, Peter Oberacker stated in a post next to that picture, “ I debated on whether to post this picture. My grandfather Ludwig Oberacker gave his life for his country. I salute all who serve.” https://judgestreetjounal.substack.com/p/bruce-blakeman-campaigned-for-governor Grandfather Ludwig is pictured wearing a Nazi uniform with the swastika on it. https://judgestreetjounal.substack.com/p/bruce-blakeman-campaigned-for-governor And get this. Congressional GOP candidate Oberacker made this post on Veteran’s Day 2015, the day that honors all U.S. veterans who served in all our wars including in WWII when we, fortunately, defeated the Nazis and literally saved the world. Oberacker, ironically, served on the Senate Republican antisemitism work group. He immediately and correctly came under fire for this post. Oberacker later said, “Looking at it through the prism of today, totally different story. Having been on the antisemitism task force for the Senate Republicans, I would look at it a little differently now. “ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Oberacker Get real, Mr. Oberacker! True, your grandfather was not a concentration camp guard directly involved in the Holocaust slaughter. However, the Nazi Army your grandfather fought in kept that slaughter going for almost six years. It stood for the beliefs of its leader Adolf Hitler who wanted all Jews and many other groups wiped off the face of the earth. And to defeat the Nazis, approximately 183,000-200,000 American military personnel died in the European theater during WWII. (The National WWII Museum) Didn’t Oberacker, a fellow in a state with the highest Jewish population in the U.S. know just how beyond awful the Holocaust was before he joined this antisemitism task force, and why people affiliated with Nazis should NEVER be honored? Youngsters in elementary and high schools have been taught for years, especially in NY, about how murderous the Nazis were to Jews, Poles, Russians, and many other people. Did Oberacker, a legislator, who should have been knowledgeable about these facts, miss some basic history courses, somewhere along the line? Listen to what Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY), the longest serving Jewish member of Congress, had to say about Oberacker’s Facebook post. Rep. Nadler rightly called Bruce Blakeman, who is also Jewish, but repeatedly campaigns along with Oberacker, “someone who should be disqualified for public office.” https://judgestreetjournal. substack.com/p/bruce-blakeman-campaigned-for-governor Exactly. Once again, the GOP had to take punitive action against one of its candidates. On September 4, 2026, Oberacker’s name was cut from the National Republican Congressional Committee’s “MAGA Majority program,” a group which seeks to support GOP candidates in swing districts. The GOP’s Congressional Leadership Fund also rescinded nearly $1.5 million scheduled advertising through Election Day in this area. https://judgestreetjournal. substack.com/p/bruce-blakeman-campaigned-for-governor And the NY Congressional 19th District (CD) is truly one swing district with a Cook Partisan Voting District (PVI) of just D+1. It contains the towns of both Binghamton and Ithaca, the home of Cornell University. Biden and Harris carried this area very narrowly, Biden by a 4% margin and Harris by a 1% margin. The sprawling NY 19th connects two regions. It extends 200 miles from the border with Massachusetts to halfway across New York. The two largest counties in the western part of the 19th include Broome which contains Binghamton and Tomkins which has Ithaca, and account for 40% of the population. https://thealmanacofamericanpolitics.com, 2026, National Journal, 2025, pp. 1270-1271 First-term Democrat Josh Riley (45), a native of Endicott, NY received his undergraduate degree from William and Mary in 2003 and a 2007 law degree from Harvard. He became a partner in the white-shoe law firm of Boies Schiller Flexner. During his time at this high-powered firm, he took breaks to clerk for a federal appeals judge in CA and worked as counsel for former Democratic Senator Al Franken on the Judiciary Committee. He later joined and became a partner in the also prestigious Jenner & Block firm in D.C. In private practice, Riley filed Supreme Ct. briefs that challenged Trump’s Muslim ban and harsh immigration policies. https://thealmanacofamericanpolitics.com, 2026, National Journal, 2025, p. 1269 He lost to GOP congressional candidate Marc Molinaro in 2022, but won a rematch against him in 2024. https://thealmanacofamericanpolitics.com, 2026, National Journal, 2025, p. 1270 During the avian flu outbreak, Rep. Riley has introduced legislation to expand financial aid to all poultry producers, to support family farms, contain the virus, and lower consumer grocery costs for consumers, including egg prices in this agricultural area. He sits on the major Agricultural Committee as well. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josh-Riley# His opponent, Peter Karl Oberacker Jr. (63), attended SUNY in Dehli, NY and received a B.A. from that institution. He initially worked with his father in operating a meat market. He later was elected a town supervisor and then won election to serve as an Ostego County legislator. He won a NY State Senate seat in 2020. In October 2025, Oberacker announced his intention to run against Dem. Rep. Riley in 2026. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josh-Riley# During his House campaign, Bobby Walker was set to become Oberacker’s campaign manager. Walker, who had served as campaign manager for Oberacker’s 2020 NY State Senate Campaign, was fired, after it was discovered that he was part of the Young Republican antisemitic group chat that I previously mentioned in this blog post. IMHO, congressional candidate Oberacker and his gubernatorial friend Bruce Blakeman must be soundly defeated in Campaign 2026. Anyone who praises Nazis in ANY way, shape, or form should be soundly clobbered in any run for public office. And anyone who campaigns with such a Nazi sympathizer should also meet the same fate.
