Kitchen Table Kibitzing: My AI Christmas list [1] ['Paul C', 'Chloris Creator'] Date: 2026-09-05 Because it’s never too early to start ruminating on “what should I get Dartagnan for Christmas?,” and, rather than subjecting everyone here to such concerns in a season almost certain to be fraught with anxiety and worry, I thought I’d make a list right now of those items I desperately need in my stocking. The first is this $499 AI toothbrush manufactured by Dyson (yes, the same Dyson that makes all those fancy vacuum cleaners). Let me just tell you, this thing is a genuine marvel. And don’t bother asking why I want a $500 toothbrush. It’s only $499! Wow! KTKn Dyson Bloomberg) — Dyson Ltd. introduced a $499 toothbrush that uses artificial intelligence and a built-in camera to give real-time feedback, the latest in a growing subset of gadgets that put AI and video in sometimes unconventional places. Who wouldn’t want an AI-powered built-in camera on their toothbrush, to give them “real time feedback,” no less? The company says “it’s new CameraJet model, announced Tuesday, is the first with an integrated camera to narrow in on the gaps in the teeth, where plaque first forms then hardens, and direct a precision jet at them.” The toothbrush also works with the company’s existing MyDyson app, which offers live viewing, guided cleaning, coverage mapping and personalized brushing insights. “Guided cleaning!” “Coverage mapping!” So for those of you who might be complaining about high electric bills or the draining of your county’s aquifer from that data center down the street, just first please, spare a thought for my “personalized brushing” needs. Specifically, as the Bloomberg article notes, this toothbrush is marketed “toward what it believes is a sizeable portion of people who often skip flossing.” That would be me, me, me! Thanks so much in advance! 2) Second on my list is this $525 AI powered cat-flap door! Now by way of background, I was once a housemate to a cat who habitually brought in all kinds of critters, proudly laying them inside the front door. These included many varieties of small rodents, snakes and large bugs. Flappie Flappiew Called “Flappie,” this amazing door is specifically designed to detect whether your cat is bringing in a dead mouse, garter snake, or other unwelcome creature in its mouth. If that happens, “Flappie” locks your cat out of the house! Boasting” 98% prey detection,” it also sends videos of your cat’s attempted ingress directly to your phone, wherever you are! How helpful is that!!! Most reassuringly, it’s “Swiss Engineered.” Thanks, Switzerland, and thank YOU, dear readers for getting me this, which I desperately need! 3) Ever wonder why crushing ice has to be so damn loud? I know I do. Here’s an icemaker that uses AI to make the entire process almost imperceptible. Smart home appliance brand GoveeLife unveiled a countertop smart ice maker that uses AI to keep things nice and quiet. The company’s patented AI NoiseGuard tech is designed to cut down on all the annoying racket you usually get from nugget ice machines. The AI detects when the machine’s about to freeze up and make noise, so it automatically defrosts before things get loud. This one is a mere $499. 99. Pocket change compared to the immense relief of not having to hear the sound of crushing ice (maybe they could put one on the Thwaites glacier!) And every time you use it, someone in a data center smiles: For unparalleled ease and smart integration, the Smart Nugget Ice Maker Pro boasts a 4.45″ LCD touch screen and a clear skyline LED bar for intuitive status indication. Dual self-cleaning modes offer both quick and deep maintenance, simplifying upkeep. Further enhancing convenience, users can manage the machine remotely via the Govee Home App for scheduling, low-water alerts, and cleaning reminders, alongside seamless integration with smart home systems like Google Home and Amazon Alexa. (note that last sentence! “seamless integration,” baby!”) 4) I know everyone here is fully invested and encouraging of my cooking efforts. To that end, I am requesting this $399 Vibrating chef’s knife. Styled the C-200 UltraSonic Chef’s knife, it imperceptibly vibrates 30,000 times per second, as you cut through, well, just about anything! No more tedious hacking away at those vegetables! As Mashable’s Haley Henschel proudly notes, she was able to cut a tomato into very thin slices with it. And supposedly, its microscopic vibration is so intangible Haley had to confirm its existence through its “squeaking” sound, which she likened to the sound your finger makes while circling a wet wine glass. No knock on Haley here, by the way. This is some outstanding stuff, and she characterizes it well. I’ll need two or more of these, so don’t worry about duplicating gifts bought by others. And for an additional $100 it comes with a wireless mahogany charging tile (it’s not clear how it can be charged absent this extra device). So, please keep that fact in mind, hint, hint! Hey, it may be from the Amazon rain forest, but at least it doesn’t use AI, right? I will not object if each of these devices is promptly shipped to me, even before the Yule holiday, care of the fully autonomous, robotic Kos gift repository/warehouse of which I’m certain everyone is aware. I’ll be updating this list over the next few months, so don’t fret if your item is sold out! And don’t worry about the fact that it’s several months ’til Christmas. While I wait patiently for these indispensable items to arrive, I will content myself reading New York Times op-eds authored by capitalist boosters and shills cautioning Democrats to avoid the subject of climate change and support free-market solutions, “for their own good.” Thanks so much! And a very merry early Christmas to you all!
