GNR for Friday, September 4, 2026: have to keep doing this [1] ['Chloris Creator', 'Greg Dworkin', 'Excorpflunky', 'Zct.Life'] Date: 2026-09-04 By Wendy Harman from Washington DC, USA (March from the Tidal Basin) [CC BY 2.0 (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.0)], via Wikimedia Commons Welcome đŸŒ» to Friday’s Roundup of Good News! In these times. do you ever think, “I can’t keep doing this?” Sometimes I do. But then I saw the artwork from the Minnesota fair. It begins with those words, but then it continues: “I have to keep doing this.” So here we are, fighting the good fight. As we know, the only way to get out of hell is to keep going. So let’s keep going, friends. Less than two months until the midterms! Come on in and see what the good guys are doing. Note sorry for some of the images of the felon. They are hard to avoid. Regular Scheduled Programming No one here is naĂŻve; we are aware of the many who are fighting to destroy our country. Some of us expected it: the cheating, the lying, and the chaos. But we are here to read the efforts and the positive results of those (including us and our fellow gnus) who are working so hard to save our country and the planet from those very bad people. We are furious with them for what they are doing and we are letting them know. Remember: 💜Although they lie all the time, reality matters. And our goals — based on reality — are more popular. 💙 They want us to be demoralized. The best way to keep up your spirits is to fight. So, take the time to recharge your batteries, make sure to protect yourself, your family and your friends, but find ways to contribute to the well-being of our country and our world. đŸ—œ Reports on Resisters đŸ—œ Minnesota fair remembers the ICE occupation (which is still happening): There is so much amazing crop art this year at the Minnesota State Fair focused on the resistance to the ICE occupation we faced, this one in particular had me choked up. — Nate Pentz (@natepentz.bsky.social) 2026-08-28T03:18:16.702Z Military: number of conscientious objectors grows A LOT Hafiz Rashid New Republic An increasing number of American service members are becoming uncomfortable with their orders under President Trump, and are trying to leave the military. MS NOW reports that the number of conscientious objectors in the military is growing, with many citing violations of international law. The GI Rights Hotline at the Quaker House has seen a spike in interest from service members who see their orders as immoral. The Center on Conscience and War, which helps service members file applications as objectors, has also seen applications go up by six times since the Iran war began in February, higher than any other time in the last 25 years. It is still not a big number, but it is probably the tip of the iceberg with respect to how people feel. And listening to discussions shows these are not people who are cowards, these are people who are questioning the commission of war crimes. Why we must resist and fight back: “Trump’s shame accrues to all of us if we don’t fight back and we don’t say no.” — @maddow.bsky.social.If that statement isn’t your guiding principle, you are not resisting hard enough. — Julie Cohen ❌👑 (@filmmakerjulie.bsky.social) 2026-09-01T01:27:04.651Z Maddow also noted that an anagram of the Great Lakes, if you substitute America for Ontario, goes from HOMES to SHAME. Even the base is crumbling. A UMass Amherst poll out this week found Trump’s approval among Republicans has dropped by more than a dozen points since April of last year — @mikestarace.bsky.social 2026-09-03T00:04:13.440Z Congressman Norman kinda mad at the felon William Vaillancourt The Daily Beast Ralph Norman, the South Carolina congressman who lost to Darline Graham last week in the state’s Senate runoff, amped up his displeasure at Donald Trump for endorsing Graham. In the span of two minutes Monday on Capitol Hill, Norman, an ally of the president, told reporters five times that his decision to back Graham was “shocking.” ✂ “But to get on the phone and call congressmen to switch their votes, to promote somebody that, uh—she was kin with Lindsey, but uh, he didn’t know a thing about her,” Norman said. “You all saw the debates. But he’s got every right to do that. It was just shocking to me.”✂ When asked by a reporter about that super PAC’s willingness to spend on a Republican-on-Republican race rather than on contests in swing states between Republicans and Democrats, Norman was at a loss. Note Norman did endorse Graham. But I also wonder: why does the felon want Darline so badly? Did he have something on Lindsey that made him especially obsequious, something that transfers to Darline? More R on R abuse: Feds say GOP candidate Thomas Ross schemed for weeks to plant cocaine and Adderall on primary rival Louise Secker to sink her campaign. — Hoodlum đŸ‡ș🇾 (@nothoodlum.bsky.social) 2026-09-03T21:05:33.488Z From article, Steph Quinn, Missouri Independent A criminal complaint filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri alleges Ross spent weeks discussing a plan to plant the drugs on Louise Secker, his opponent in the Aug. 4 Republican primary. Ross’ former campaign manager reported the alleged plot to the Joplin Police Department on July 30, according to a probable cause statement by FBI Special Agent Brandon Bernhardt. The former campaign manager provided Joplin police with a nylon glove containing a plastic bag of white powder that tested positive for cocaine and a pink and white pill identified as Adderall, Bernhardt wrote. Screenshots of text messages reviewed by Bernhardt suggest Ross and the former campaign manager discussed the plot as early as May 31 and show them referring to it in coded language as the “substance of the matter” or the “substance of it all,” according to the probable cause statement. Hope this gives a boost to Aaron Metzger, the Democratic candidate. The House Dems have a corruption tracker website While Americans struggle to buy groceries and pay rent, Donald Trump is making his family richer through digital grift schemes— collecting profits through digital wallets and granting pardons to the highest bidders. While Trump and his family are using the White House to make billions, we are tracking every cent. As of January 2026, our Committee’s analysis shows that these schemes have contributed to an estimated $2.25 billion in realized profits for Trump from foreign payments, corrupt oligarchs, and others. This total rises to as much as $9.7 billion when the value of Trump’s digital assets is factored in, with as much as $600 million coming from foreign interests. President Trump should be serving the American people—not his own pockets. I took those words on Wednesday this week, so the numbers have certainly gone up. Well done, House Ds! Methodology is linked at the site. But we need more people to see this. đŸŽ© Janesaunt has a diary on how the House Dems also just released a report on how the felon’s pardon payment program. Here’s the link to the report, and here are some excerpts: The report details how Trump has sidelined the traditional Department of Justice (DOJ) clemency process and replaced it with a pay-to-play system in which wealthy criminals use political contributions, Trump family business ties, and well-connected MAGA insiders to secure presidential pardons. Trump’s pardons have now erased nearly $1.7 billion in restitution, fines, and forfeitures owed to victims and taxpayers, up from Judiciary Democrats’ initial estimate of $1.3 billion last year. [This means the money stays with criminals] ✂ Pardons, Inc. Allows the Worst of the Worst to Escape Accountability. Trump has granted clemency to serious offenders based on political and personal networks, money and political ideology rather than traditional considerations such as remorse, rehabilitation, restitution and public safety. Among those receiving clemency are former Honduran President Juan Orlando HernĂĄndez, who was serving 45 years for helping traffic hundreds of tons of cocaine into the United States; nursing-home magnate Joseph Schwartz, who spent nearly $1.1 million lobbying for clemency while serving a sentence for a $38 million payroll-tax fraud scheme; and Timothy Leiweke, who donated $250,000 to Trump’s inauguration before Trump wiped away a federal bid-rigging prosecution against him. Trump also pardoned three participants in an international bribery case after one defendant’s daughter donated $2.5 million to MAGA Inc.; Jason Galanis, a convicted fraudster who became a witness in House Republicans’ failed Biden impeachment investigation; and Michele Fiore, who was convicted of stealing donations intended for a memorial to two murdered police officers. The felon has also gutted the IRS so it’s harder to do tax audits of criminals. The House Judiciary Dems have been so busy! Unlike Mike Johnson and other Rs, who are always going on vacation. Here’s more: In case you missed it, RM @raskin.house.gov expanded the Committee’s investigation into misconduct by Department of Justice attorneys before federal courts.[cont

 — Krist_essis (@kristessis.bsky.social) 2026-09-02T22:47:03.618Z From article, about the feelings of young Americans (Tara Suter) In a survey conducted by American University’s Sine Institute of Policy & Politics and published Tuesday, 70 percent of respondents — aged 18 to 34 — said they weren’t proud of “where America is heading as a nation.” A similar number, 71 percent, said the same when asked about the state of the U.S. today. The American University poll surveyed younger millennials and adult Generation Z members, which the study characterized as a demographic that has grown up amid significant political strife. The age group lived through prominent events ranging from the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, 59 percent of respondents also said they felt proud of the U.S. as it relates to “what [it] has been in the past.” We older people tend to have rosy memories of the 1950s, which of course were not as rosy as some people make out, especially with the racism and the misogyny. But one thing that was really, really good was the marginal tax rate on the highest parts of incomes. Gosh, people hate data centers. Even in Missouri! As data centers suddenly emerge as a major political flashpoint, Councilman John Perkins has been recalled from office in Independence, Missouri, a city of 123,000, following his vote to approve a multibillion-dollar data center project. — VoteHub (@votehub.com) 2026-09-02T01:38:39.094Z đŸ“„Actions You Can Take đŸ“€ Note I have removed the tax thingy for now because it is so unlikely that this IRS under the felon’s badministration will do anything about it. Alex Horton and Tara Copp, Washington Post, sorry for the paywall Several U.S. military leaders have advised Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth that prolonging large-scale operations against Iran is unsustainable and risks weakening their ability to confront threats elsewhere, including the U.S. homeland, according to people familiar with a recent assessment prepared for the Pentagon chief. The warnings — detailed for Hegseth by the heads of the Army, Navy and Air Force and the four-star commanders overseeing U.S. operations throughout Europe, Asia and Latin America — appear in the Aug. 14 edition of the Secretary of Defense Orders Book (SDOB), these people said. They described the assessment to The Washington Post on the condition of anonymity because the document is classified. There are a lot of details in the article, but right now we’re honoring the reporters who got the story and the fact that some people in the military took the risk to leak this information. Of course, it is not a surprise. Because it was clear to most of this that this had to be happening. What is a relief is that the military leaders are objecting and that some of them feel strong enough to leak about it. 📬📬📬We are also honoring an unknown whistleblower who broke the news about one way the felon is trying to steal the election: NEW: A bombshell whistleblower report alleged that the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) brazenly violated multiple court orders to secretly advance President Donald Trump’s attempt to restrict mail voting ahead of the upcoming midterms. www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/

It streamlines the donation process, allowing anyone to send fresh pizzas from any nearby restaurant to any nearby charity of their choice. Designed 2 years ago by 8th grader Aashrita Kaza and her brother Anish, the Pizza for a purpose app has led to the donations of 25,000 slices of pizza to food insecure families in places like Broward County. “The reaction really warms our hearts, their faces just light up the second they get the pizza,” Aashrita told CBS News for the ‘Miami Proud’ segment. “It’s very rewarding because it makes everything we do worth it.” 📎Odds & Ends📎 Sitting too much increases the chances of cancer! Science Daily Source: PLOS Summary: Sitting for long, uninterrupted stretches may carry greater health risks than sitting the same amount of time in shorter bouts. Researchers found that each extra hour of prolonged sedentary behavior was associated with a 9% higher risk of cancer death. Breaking up sitting with movement showed the opposite pattern, while replacing an hour of prolonged sitting with light activity was linked to a 12% lower risk. Libya decides to swap bullets for ballots Good News Network A civil war, military standoff, and a state experiencing double-government are all hopefully set to end after Libya’s rival factions agreed to hold elections. The breakthrough occurred in a signing ceremony Sunday at the United Nations Support Mission to Libya in Tripoli, and follows a period of tireless negotiations by the UN lasting over 2 years. Following a NATO-backed insurrection which toppled the government in 2011, rival political and rebel factions succumbed to a civil war that lasted from 2014 to 2020. In 2021, negotiations on national elections collapsed, leaving the country split between the UN-recognized government in Tripoli, and the forces of the army under General Khalifa Haftar in the eastern city of Tobruk.✂ Mercifully, the guns have been silent for the last 6 years, leading to the Sunday’s breakthrough which saw a date set for future elections in 2 years’ time, during which contentious issues involving electoral law, the eligibility of candidates, and the national elections body are to be resolved. “Today’s signing represents an important step in overcoming the political and institutional impasse that has delayed Libya’s electoral process,” UN Special Rep. for the Secretary General, Hanna Tetteh said in her remarks at the signing ceremony. “The agreement demonstrates what can be achieved when Libyans constructively engage in dialogue and seek practical and implementable solutions to outstanding issues.” Finally, something negative about coffee. Trying not to be unfair. Science Daily Source: Flinders University Summary: Following nearly 10,000 older women for 10 years, researchers found that tea drinking was associated with slightly higher hip bone density. Moderate coffee consumption did not appear harmful, but drinking more than five cups a day was linked to lower bone density. I know it’s tough to see the path forward. And I can’t guarantee that there is a path forward. But people who are smarter and braver than I have seen ways to move ahead. Their (the fascists’) plans really are dark, but many of them are also dumb, in the sense that they don’t make sense. So many of them cannot succeed. Here are some quick hits. Stay involved. Yeah, that’s tough. I want to look away too, but by taking simple actions you can make a difference. Keep contacting your representatives, both in DC and at home. Support causes that will fight. Send money if you can, including to independent and honest news organizations. Also, spread their news with clicks and conversation. Slow them down. Oppose and block at every turn. Make the felon unpopular. Doing this weakens him. And it should not be that difficult. Divide the GOP from each other. They are a coalition based on contradictory promises, so there’s plenty to work with. Keep telling the truth and showing love. Make sure to pace yourselves in this marathon and to practice self-care.
