Fiction Works-in-Progress: Heavy Weather [1]

['Mercy Ormont', 'Wafflehacker Aka Joshhacks', 'News Corpse']

Date: 2026-09-03

Good evening, writers, and welcome to another Thursday edition of the companion diary to Write On, Fiction Works-in-Progress. We had some serious storms in my area in the past few days, including some tornado warnings this afternoon, but it seems to have all blown over now. I hope things are good wherever you are.

In this diary/article/story series, you’re invited to use the comment thread for chapters, excerpts, and requests for help/feedback on your writing. (In Write On! posts we do theory & practice.)

We take turns hosting the diary, and everyone can participate, posting excerpts from their works in progress or any other writing you’d like to share. Hosting is easy. Just volunteer for an open Thursday in the comments, and then, on that day, write a diary, tag it with the tags below, and post it at 8 pm Eastern, 5 pm Pacific. Copy the URL from your diary, and post it in a comment at that week’s Write On! diary. The schedule is below.

A word of caution

Many agents and editors reject material that’s been published anywhere else in part or whole, including online, due to the risk of a copyright lawsuit by someone who saw your work, ripped it off, and then claims it’s their own. So, if you hope to sell your writing professionally, you probably don’t want to post it in DK. But if you only plan on self-publishing, the risk is yours alone — you can publish here or not, whichever you think best. If you don’t plan to sell it anywhere, then it’s probably no tribble at all! 😉
