Kitchen Table Kibitzing 9/1/2026: Seasons Change [1] ['Belinda Ridgewood', 'Franks Human'] Date: 2026-09-01 Good evening, Kibitzers! If you know me at all, you probably know how much I have been looking forward to the end of August. I know, it’s not even Labor Day yet, and “astronomical fall” doesn’t start for a good three weeks — it’s only “meteorological fall” now, but hey, I’ll take it. The hours of daylight are noticeably shorter already, and fewer daylight hours = fewer hours the sun is squirting sunlight all over me and making it hot. Surely it will get hot again at times this year, even freakishly hot, but it’s harder for such heat to be sustained for long. So that’s where I’m at! This is a music collection about summer ending, fall starting, and September Septembering. I know you will have songs to add, because there are a ton on my list that I couldn’t squeeze in here, so feel free. We’ll start with a brand-new take on an old song. Summertime: Itzhak Perlman with Jon Batiste (official video, released 8/31/2026, from upcoming Perlman album The Way We Were: My American Songbook). ❧ [4:26] Summer’s Almost Gone: The Doors (1965 audio with montage of live concert footage). ❧ [3:23] ‘Tis The Last Rose Of Summer: Wynton Marsalis, Donald Hunsberger and the Eastman Wind Ensemble (1987 album Carneval). ❧ [1:45] Leaves That Are Green: Simon & Garfunkel (live special on Granada TV, Manchester UK, 1967). ❧ [2:29] h/t Sara R for this one — she left it in the comments of a fall-music diary a few years ago. Hi, Sara! Hope you’re well! You may recall that “bardcore”, which we had a KTK on in 2020, is the performance of modern songs in a medieval style. Hildegard von Blingin’ is one of its top practitioners. Summertime Sadness: Hildegard von Blingin’ (bardcore version of Summertime Sadness by Lana Del Rey). ❧ [4:09] Urge for Going: Dave Van Ronk (performance: Athens, Ohio, 1980; interview 2000). ❧ [6:27] Summer’s End: Brandi Carlile (personal recording 2020, in memory of the song’s composer, John Prine). ❧ [3:45] September Grass: James Taylor (Tanglewood, Lenox MA, 2003: From The Mosh Pit Presents, a live-performance YouTube-generated channel). ❧ [5:31] Try To Remember: Harry Belafonte (unidentified live performance, ca. 1962). ❧ [4:20] Early Autumn: Cleo Laine (1957 MGM album Meet Cleo). ❧ [3:17] It’s September: Johnnie Taylor (Fairmount Hotel, Dallas, 1989). ❧ [5:30] September Song: Django Reinhardt (recorded for the Blue Star label, Paris, March 1953). ❧ [2:40] Autumn Serenade: Johnny Hartman and John Coltrane (Verve recording, 1963). ❧ [4:19] [END] --- [1] Url: https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2026/9/1/800092281/community/kitchen-table-kibitzing-9-1-2026-seasons-change/ Published and (C) by Daily Kos Content appears here under this condition or license: Site content may be used for any purpose without permission unless otherwise specified. via Magical.Fish Gopher News Feeds: gopher://magical.fish/1/feeds/news/dailykos/
