Abdul El-Sayed thanks Trump for boosting his platform [1]

['Walter Einenkel']

Date: 2026-09-01

Michigan’s Democratic Senate Candidate Adbul El-Sayed held a roundtable with Black leaders in Detroit on Tuesday, where he called out President Donald Trump’s racist attacks.

“Trump is messing around and making me the front page, or the main character of the midterms,” he said. “If I win, I now have a gigantic platform that they just gave me, and that allows me to both move a conversation but also maneuver inside because I can move a conversation across.”

El-Sayed made his case to local leaders after receiving a minority of the Black vote during the primary. He also stressed his affordability message, saying that his past work as a public servant makes him empathetic to the stresses that congressional underfunding puts on local leaders.

So far, El-Sayed has made it very clear that he is unimpressed by a Republican Party captured by Trump’s bluster. Hopefully he can inspire a progressive outcome in November.
