Musing on AI.

It’s difficult to write anything about AI without using AI. Its speed of adoption is incredible. The explosive growth of AI platforms in 2026 represents one of the fastest technology adoptions in human history. Remember, ChatGPT was only introduced in late 2022, and very few people were even aware of Artificial Intelligence. The adoption rate has been nothing short of extraordinary, with AI usage statistics 2026 revealing that the technology is being integrated into virtually every sector of society, from healthcare and education to business operations and personal productivity.

AI market size is expected to reach $1,339 billion by 2030.

AI will have an estimated 21% net increase on the United States GDP by 2030

Over 75% of consumers are concerned about misinformation from AI

ChatGPT had 1 million users within the first five days of being available

AI is expected to see an annual growth rate of 36.6% from 2023 to 2030

An AI data center is a facility purpose-built to run artificial intelligence workloads: training large language models, processing inference requests, and storing the datasets those models learn from. Nearly 3,000 data centers are planned for completion globally by 2030, representing $7 trillion in total investment (IRMI, 2026). They use huge amounts of power and the public hates them in their neighborhoods.

AI does make mistakes, often in ways that can be subtle or unexpected. These errors can arise from biases in training data, misinterpretations of input, or limitations in the algorithms used. Understanding these mistakes is crucial for effectively utilizing AI technologies. Our political system depends on a well and accurately informed public.

Today’s N Y Times had an amusing article: students are having AI write their college applications…..which are read and evaluated by….AI. “I’ve started calling these situations “bot loops” — the little whirlpools that spin up whenever humans on each side of an interaction outsource their roles to A.I.”

I’ve had fun with AI, but never depended on it. I have seen the mistakes. Do y’all use AI? What for? Do you trust it?
