Even as cases increase, RFK Jr. says that ‘explosive diarrhea’ is under control [1]

On Tuesday, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. held a press conference. America’s head medical official, who has no medical training, looked reporters in the eye. And told them not to worry; America’s explosive diarrhea outbreak was under control. In his words:

“We do have the outbreak under control. We have done extensive forensics, epidemiological forensics and we have identified the source of the outbreak. We, and the companies that are involved, have implemented a recall.”

Outstanding news – except for one small wrinkle. He didn’t say which companies are involved. I am not an expert in public health. But it does take much education to know that if you want customers not to eat something harmful, a necessary step is to tell them what might be harmful. In addition, the number of cases is rising. And now stands at over 10,000.

But that’s how MAHA, and its big brother MAGA, rolls. Keep the proles onside with happy talk. And hope the base swallows unsupported statements as definitive proof the Trump administration is on the job and cares about them.

But the reality is that the purveyors of cyclosporiasis are now unknown. There had been a nominated culprit, Taylor Farms. However, authorities now say the test was a false positive and that Taylor is innocent of introducing pathogens into America’s food supply.

Perhaps this reversal of judgment is on the up and up. However, as DKer Citizen Earth pointed out in their diary, Taylor Farms Donates $1 Million to MAGA Inc., Its CEO Visits Trump, and Voila! FDA Changes Its Mind. Coincidence?, money has changed hands. And this is an administration that believes that cash is a great disinfectant.

However, not everyone is using the same playbook. The FDA tweeted that “To clarify, this false-positive lab sample DOES NOT change the basis for FDA’s ongoing outbreak investigation or the overwhelming epidemiological data supporting the current voluntary recall by Taylor Farms.”

Beyond the mixed messaging, I cannot say that RFK is lying. But a reasonable person would have to give the proposition weight. This is an administration that starts with a preferred conclusion and manufactures the proof for it. While anti-vaxxers thrive when the medical establishment calls BS on their science rejection. They are not alone. The climate deniers embrace the sophistry of Big Tobacco. Voodoo economists promise balanced budgets through tax cuts.

And the man at the top swears his magic touch will reduce prices (when?) And that he will put an end to endless wars by fighting an endless war he keeps promising has ended.

While Kennedy promises that the tide has turned, the Independent reports, “The investigation into the source of cases nationwide remains ongoing.” If at this point, readers feel as if they have lost the plot, who can blame them? The situation as it stands is this:

Kennedy says he knows who the culprits are. But he isn’t going to tell us. And even though he knows who the culprits are, they are still looking for culprits. We do know that one company that was suspected turned out to be wrongly suspected. But it is still suspected. Most importantly, the situation is getting better even as the number of cases increases.

I feel reassured.
