Victim Blamer’s Guide [1] ['Greg Dworkin', 'Crimson Quillfeather'] Date: 2026-07-18 It’s a scary world out there. Terrible things happen to people on a regular basis. One way for you to make yourself feel less vulnerable is to respond to tragedies by blaming the victims! Child bullying: He should have ignored it. Or he should have told the teacher, so that the teacher could have told him to ignore it. Or if the bullies had a stated “reason”, whatever their reason was is a good enough reason to blame the victim. Child sex abuse by clergy: If a child reports it years later, he should have reported it sooner. If a child reports it immediately, he should get a good spanking for saying such a disrespectful thing about a man of God. Domestic violence: The victim must have done something to provoke the attack. Unless the attacker said “I assaulted him/her for no reason whatsoever”, you can insist that the victim was at fault. False imprisonment: Anyone who has been locked up without a trial must be a very terrible criminal who didn’t deserve a trial. Natural disasters: God punished them because all of the people in the region were naughty sinners. (This category of victim-blaming was pioneered by the late Pat Robertson.) Police brutality: The victim must have resisted arrest, or tried to flee, or failed to fully comply, or something. Poverty/homelessness: The victims don’t work hard enough. Rape: She was asking for it by whatever she was wearing. Even if she was fully covered up in heavy winter gear, her underwear was too short. Sexual harassment: She should have reported it sooner. If she reported it and wasn’t believed, she should have reported it more believably. Unplanned pregnancy: That only happens to sluts. (See Rape.) If someone tries to refute your victim-blaming with specific facts about an incident, disregard the facts and stick to your victim-blaming version of every story. If you can convince yourself to believe it, it will help you feel secure in your belief that it could never happen to you.
