[1] ['Meteor Blades', 'Patricia Parcells', 'Black Kos', 'Darrell Lucus', 'Chitown Kev'] Date: 2026-07-07 The latest collapse in our ‘ceasefire’ with Iran over the Strait of Hormuz and Persian Gulf shipping. From USA Today US launches strikes on Iran, claims ceasefire violation. Live updates The United States military launched a new round of strikes against Iran on July 7 in retaliation for attacks on three vessels in the Strait of Hormuz that American officials described as a ceasefire violation. U.S. Central Command said the attacks were launched to “impose heavy costs for targeting and attacking commercial shipping crewed by innocent civilians in an international waterway.” “Iran’s demonstrated aggression was unwarranted, dangerous, and a clear violation of the ceasefire,” CENTCOM said. The United States also revoked a license for Iran to sell oil in retaliation for the attacks on the commercial vessels. Iran’s continued aggression and the U.S. military and economic response underscored the tenuous status of peace negotiations. U.S. and Iranian officials signed a preliminary peace agreement last month to end a war that began on Feb. 28. The memorandum of understanding called for reopening the Strait of Hormuz and launched further negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program and sanctions. Needless to say, this is sending oil prices back up again after several weeks of gradual decline when it looked like the ‘ceasefire’ might allow at least a partial resumption in petroleum exports from the Persian Gulf. Meanwhile, the BBC is reporting that among the tankers hit by Iran in this latest round of attacks, one was Saudi owned and one was Qatari US launches strikes on Iran after tankers hit in Strait of Hormuz Qatar and Saudi Arabia also denounced the attacks, each saying a tanker from its country had been hit as while transiting in or near the Strait, and blaming Iran. Qatar’s foreign ministry spokesperson Majed Al Ansari said it held Iran “fully responsible” for an apparent targeted attack on a vessel called Al-Rekayyat as it transited near the Strait. Qatar demanded that Iran “immediately cease all practices that undermine regional security” and “refrain from endangering global energy supplies & the resources of the countries of the region in pursuit of narrow interests”, he added in a post on X. In a separate social media post, Saudi Arabia’s foreign ministry said Iran had targeted the Saudi tanker Wadyan as it crossed the Strait. It added that the assaults were “an attack on the security and safety of international navigation, and the security of global energy supplies”. Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei described Qatar’s accusations, as “contrary to the principle of good neighbourliness”. Methinks that ship sailed some time ago, and who knows if or when it will ever return to the area.
