Kitchen Table Kibitzing 7/6/2026: What Happens in Vegas [1]

Good evening, Kibitzers. I hope you’re all doing well this evening. And I hope you’ll excuse the lack of substance in tonight’s diary. We hosted a Fourth of July party this weekend, and then my summer courses started today, so time really got away from me.

Question: If somebody offered you an all-expenses-paid (and I do mean ALL expenses paid), week-long trip to Las Vegas, would you turn it down? That’d be crazy, right? Well, that’s what I did. The BF’s parents offered to take us both to Vegas and pay for everything, from the flight to the hotel to the food and whatever else. Only problem is, my classes are starting this week, and this is the week they picked. And yes, my classes are online, so theoretically I could swing it, but I also know that the first week is always a headache. More importantly, I know myself, and I know I wouldn’t enjoy the trip. I’d just be walking around stressing and checking my phone every chance I got. So I opted not to go, and the BF left this morning for the spoiling of his life!

It was the right thing to do. But man. They’re doing everything this week. His parents are kind of out of touch, so they handed over all the planning to their son, and I hope they’re ready for the bill. They’re going to see The Wizard of Oz at the Sphere, they’re going to a RuPaul drag show, they’re eating at Wolfgang Puck’s Spago, José Andrés’ Bazaar Meats, among other top-tier restaurants. It’s not fair!

It’s okay, though, I shouldn’t be eating like that for a week anyway. Also, traveling with his parents comes with stresses of its own, the main one being that we’d all be sharing a room if we want Mommy and Daddy to pay (I’m sorry, no thanks). Not to mention the aforementioned stressing over class stuff the whole time. So it’s for the best. Right? Right.
