Massive Rolling General Strikes: It’s Time [1]

I have been beating this drum for a while now, but it should be clear to all that it is well past time to notify the suites, fill the streets, and if need be, fill the jails. My title is just one potential action, and one we of course, would need to build to. There are multiple forms of direct non-violent tactics we could utilize as a movement.

We need to follow the lead and spirit of the Air Force Major Jason Watson, who recently committed civil disobedience at great risk to his liberty. As some commentator said the other day, the American populace ” should already be like Hungary, like Albania.” This is not an invitation for everybody to take high risk actions beyond their capacity or comfort, but we should at least be platforming and supporting those who can. In the mean time, we need to be taking more militantly-peaceful, calculated risks in solidarity with those folks, and realize that the more people engage, the more protected all of us will be. Let me repeat: the more people engage, the more protected we all will be.

In short, we need to become strategically ungovernable, while using our power on every front: electoral, social, economic, cultural, to afflict, inconvenience, slow, and confound the comfortable despots running the show.

The fascists are getting more overt, more emboldened; the pronouncements of MAGA more deranged, violent, the corruption and thuggery more plain. This, while SCOTUS provides more flimsy legal pretexts to dismantle OUR constitution ( That is our constitution people; it lives or dies with us, not the be-robed SOB traitors on SCOTUS!!) and replace it with a failed state helmed by a deranged narcissist. Much of the mainstream media has either been bought-off, or coerced ( there is no excuse for either). Cowardice is not an option, especially now, when the conflict is not acute, still salvageable.

We have no time for people who would divide us. And I mean anyone who seeks to divide us in our goals at reclaiming and expanding our democracy. The goals will need to be stated clearly and fleshed out, so we all know the score, and the stating of the end goal(s) and purpose, is frankly critical. No movement can survive without being intentional and transparent in its purpose..

The greedy and stupid scoundrels who control the press have failed us because they seem to have no clue why the U.S. Constitution privileges them by name in the First Amendment. They are absolutely useless and vain, feckless imbeciles; history will not be kind to their names. In the mean time, we need to find ways to boost citizen media, even more robustly and visibly than it exists now. And not just in cyberspace.

There are plenty of models for what such a movement would look like.

People ask how, and I have to say: there are books, there is the lived experience of our elders, and their are resources that exist beyond the rhetoric of bloviating podcasters. I am not referencing those resources here because that would be another diary, and in any case I have done it already– many times.

There is no one template, but there are models ( from our own history) and from abroad ( see the Color Revolutions etc.). These were largely coordinated, non-violent movements that got so large, they became undeniable that they yanked the pillars out from under the edifice of tyranny. Such movements were premised on the notion that power relies on our cooperation in some measure. If we cease to cooperate ( in ways they don’t expect, can’t predict, or counter, in ways that can’t sustain their power and legitimacy); if we cease to comply collectively, the entire edifice of bullshit tumbles to the earth. Let’s get on with it.
