The Reflecting Pool is Like Noah’s Ark [1] ['Dan K', 'Chitown Kev', 'Belinda Ridgewood', 'Bill In Portland Maine', 'Aspiring Polymath'] Date: 2026-06-30 Pixabay: 334 Free images of The Ark Of Noah The ark of noah photos for download. All pictures are free to use. How, you ask? Well, I have been spending some time lately on Facebook with fundamentalists who insist that the flood was real, that Noah’s Ark was a real thing, and that none of the evidence to the contrary (not to mention the total lack of evidence that it happened) counts for anything, because with God all things are possible or some such. It occurred to me this morning that these arguments sound eerily close to what trump and his cult are saying about the Reflecting Pool disaster. Here’s what I mean: A couple of selected quotes from this Facebook post on the Noah question in response to people pointing out the impossibility of mixing predator and prey animals in close quarters, the impossibility of an ark holding the diversity of animals in the world today, the impossibility of a simultaneous worldwide flood that lasted 40 days and completely covered the earth (presumably including the Himalayas) – in other words, the actual evidence that no such flood ever happened, ever could have happened. But we KNOW the earth was once covered with water, and we have found the remains of what is believed to be the ark! But don’t let that get in the way of your lack of faith! [Y]ou are projecting modern, highly specialized biological roles back onto the ancient world. The Bible indicates that animals were originally created vegetarian. Even in our current world, we see numerous examples of opportunistic carnivores surviving perfectly fine on vegetation when necessary. Almost like you willingly ignore the fact that Noah brought two of every kind and not two of every animal on board. Now here are some of the collected comments from trump’s cult: For someone to be filled with so much hatred toward Trump that they would act like children destroying hard work and beautiful things our taxes paid for is beyond comprehension. Demonic manifestations will become almost normal. Just in the last 10 years we’ve seen this type of demonic activity increase 100 fold. Expect it to increase a 1000+ fold in the coming years. Yes, you read that right. MAGA believers are blaming demons. Also these: “President Trump fixes the reflecting pool and a week later it’s green again, loaded with algae… Sabotage… Vandalism? I believe it is,” posted MAGA podcaster [name redacted] on June 13. “The left can’t stand Trump, American greatness and his quest to make DC beautiful again. What a shame!” [Fox’s] Johnny Belisario did a segment in front of the bright green pool, which was in the middle of being cleaned by a massive crew, and told America that the pool’s water was actually blue and Democrats were lying by calling it green. Then there’s trump himself: “I saw it. They cut it. They cut it very violently,” Trump said. “The same thing with the floor. They cut it and then they lifted it. They pulled it. And that’s what it is.” The common thread here is that, just as the religious fundamentalist Biblical literalists have convinced themselves that the Flood and Noah were real, and that there is no scientific evidence, no logic, no appeal to common sense, that can dissuade them from their fantasy, so too there is no way to persuade trump’s true believers, much less trump himself, that his fantasy of a perfect Reflecting Pool deliberately destroyed by malicious malcontents who cannot stand that trump is next to god in all things (or at least that he is the new messiah). The comparison is particularly apt because the situations are so similar. trump himself screwed up the pool in his haste to get it done in time for his latest paean to himself, his insistence on a color that doesn’t work, and his choice of contractor based on loyalty to him rather than competence to do the job. (The competent ones had told him it couldn’t be done the way he wanted.) He created a myth that he could not fail, he could be failed – by mysterious and malevolent forces determined to deny his greatness. The believers in Noah’s Ark similarly insist that “with God all things are possible” and only people who are determined to deny the existence and glory of God can fail to see that. You can’t reason with such people. (I’m not really trying to do that on FB either, though I can’t resist poking holes.) You can only pity them and see to it that they are kept away from power, as well as away from small children, sharp instruments, and – especially – public education. Side note: The Texas Board of Education list of required Biblical readings includes Noah’s Ark for first graders: The new required reading list, mandated by the Texas Legislature in 2023, has more than a dozen Bible passages or stories, with at least one biblical text in every grade except kindergarten. In first grade, students will read “Noah’s Ark” by Peter Thiel, and in later grades, excerpts from the books of Luke, Matthew and Genesis. At one point, it was reported that the Noah story had been removed from the list, but it seems the objection was that it was a picture book and a different presentation was needed.
