Poetry: Death by Design [1] ['Greg Dworkin', 'Bill In Portland Maine', 'Aspiring Polymath', 'Rob In Vermont'] Date: 2026-06-29 Haiti… death by design There is a crisis in Haiti Over 30 years of international aid Wreaking chaos on its path Leaving destruction in its wake There is a pandemic in Haiti The symptoms are gaping wounds Caused by a virus called bullets Death has collected thousands There is a drought in Haiti The tears have stopped flowing The rivers of emotions have run dry All the hearts have emptied There is a shortage in Haiti Of caskets and burial spaces The cemeteries are overflowing The graves are bursting at the seams Muriel Vieux — December 1st, 2023 ©All Rights Reserved Muriel Vieux Haiti’s grief Can you scream for me? My voice is gone Can you cry for me? My eyes are empty Can you bleed for me? Can you die for me? It doesn’t matter that I’m still breathing It doesn’t matter that I’m still alive Can you bury me today, anyway? My soul is gone, my hopes are dead My dreams are shattered, their remains scattered I’m still breathing, but my life is gone Despair has me in its arms Misery has me by the throat Anguish has invaded my brain Can you scream for me? My voice is gone Can you cry for me? My eyes are empty Can you bury me today anyway? It doesn’t matter that my heart’s still beating The rhythm is gone, the beat’s gone awry Can you help me find solace, in a grave? Can you bury me today anyway? #TheAmericanHaitianPoet / Paypal.me/murielvieux Muriel Vieux — March 10th, 2024 ©All Rights Reserved Muriel Vieux Haiti’s Pain It’s a broken soul, crying out for help It’s a ripped heart, torn while still beating Haiti’s bleeding is Haiti weeping It’s a nation with no fixed destination The rudder’s broken, all captains have fled Haiti’s demise is Haiti’s last cries It’s a stolen destiny, by the powers that be It’s a ruined legacy, sunken to poverty Haiti’s history, is Haiti’s misery It’s the people’s eyes, filled with only fright It’s the people’s sight, beholding only death Haiti’s last breath, is Haiti’s death It’s a glorious past, so often forgotten It’s a desperate present, so often mistaken Haiti’s nature, is Haiti’s future It’s a bereaved soul, over an empty tomb It’s hundreds of mothers, rocking empty air Haiti’s pain, is the world’s stain. / #TheAmericanHaitianPoet / Paypal.me/murielvieux Muriel Vieux — March 10th, 2024 ©All Rights Reserved [END] --- [1] Url: https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2026/6/29/800062424/community/poetry-death-by-design/ Published and (C) by Daily Kos Content appears here under this condition or license: Site content may be used for any purpose without permission unless otherwise specified. via Magical.Fish Gopher News Feeds: gopher://magical.fish/1/feeds/news/dailykos/
