CONGRESS – Bipartisan Miracles [1] ['Doctor Who', 'Greg Dworkin', 'Sabrina Haake', 'Matthew Adarichev', 'Chloris Creator'] Date: 2026-06-24 Amazing things are happening in this buidling. Photo What happened on Monday and Tuesday this week in Congress is nothing short of a true bipartisan miracles, especially considering how toxic today’s toxic Republican Party is when it comes to compromising with Democrats. Miracle #1 – In the Senate: The first Bipartisan Miracle occurred on Monday in the Senate. It involved a vote on the Senate amended Bill H.R.6644 – 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act. According to this Congressional website, “This bill revises federal housing programs, including by expanding available financing for affordable housing and providing grants for planning and community development activities. For example, the bill increases the statutory maximum loan limits for mortgage insurance programs administered by the Federal Housing Administration for multifamily homes and requires the use of a more specific inflation index for such loans. The bill also increases the maximum eligible income for the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD’s) HOME Investment Partnerships Program (grants to states and localities to support housing for low-income households) and establishes a grant program to assist regional, state, and local entities with strategies to support affordable housing. In addition, the bill exempts certain housing-related activities from the environmental review process, including certain construction, improvement, or rehabilitation of residential buildings; excludes veterans’ disability benefits from being considered as income for purposes of determining eligibility for the Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) program; establishes a pilot program to provide grants to public housing agencies (PHAs) and other owners of federally assisted housing to test the efficacy of temperature sensors to support compliance with temperature requirements; eliminates the requirement that manufactured homes must be constructed with a permanent chassis; and authorizes HUD to conduct performance reviews of organizations that provide housing counseling services. The bill also expands oversight of HUD and PHAs, such as by requiring PHAs to post information about contracts on their websites.” As Elizabeth Warren explained on MSNOW Monday evening, besides providing much needed Grant funding for Housing, it prohibits large scale developers from using these funds to build multi-occupancy housing and turn them into rental properties creating a huge profit for corporate developers and leaving the little guy (you and me) in the rental trap, paying high rents without ownership in which to build home equity. Instead, the developer must build and sell single family homes, to help fulfill the American Dream of Home Ownership. BTW – Warren was absolutely GIDDY about this Bill. Now getting to this first Bipartisan miracle. The vote in the Senate on Monday was 85 to 5 with 10 Senators not voting (presumably not present). Here are the voting details from this Congressional website The 5 voting against were Republicans of course, and the not voting Senators were a mix of 4 Democrats and 6 Republicans. What really makes this amazing is that Progressive Democrats like Warren and Sanders voted for this Bill together with Conservatives like Britt from Alabama and Lummis from Wyoming, among several others. This is not just cats and dogs sleeping together, this is more like lions and fawns. Although the original version of H.R.6644 was passed by the House, it was amended by the Senate prior to the Monday evening vote, so it had to go back to the House for final passage. This leads us to our Second Bipartisan Miracle. Miracle #2 – In the House: The second Bipartisan Miracle occurred on Tuesday in the House and involved a vote on the same Senate amended Bill H.R.6644 – 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act. Since this Senate amended Bill didn’t go through the House Rules Committee, it required a 2/3s vote in the House to suspend the rules and pass the amended Bill. However, the vote in the House was 358 to 32 with 41 not voting, which is an amazing 83% of the current 431 member House, well above the required 2/3s for passage. Here are the voting details from this Congressional website All the no votes were again Republicans, with the not voting members were pretty much evenly split between Republicans and Democrats. This Bill which will actually help home buyers become home owners, had amazing support from both sides of the aisle in both Congressional bodies. A truly miraculous result in this highly partisan Congress. The Bill now goes to the President’s desk. What will Trump do with it? First, I am not even sure if he knows it’s coming his way, and I’m sure he doesn’t know what’s in it. So if those around him tell him to sign it, he probably will, with or without fanfare. However, if he is pissed at Congress (which he often is these days) he could have one of his childish tantrums and veto the Bill. However, with passage margins of 85 to 5 in the Senate and 358 to 32 in the House, Congress has more than the 2/3s required to override a Trump veto, that is if the Republicans who voted for it have the spines to override a Trump veto. Personally, I’m hoping for a veto, so we can have the first Congressional override to really stick it to the Orange Turd and further split Republicans. Miracle #3 – In the Senate: The third and last Bipartisan Miracle occurred on Tuesday in the Senate. It involved House Concurrent Resolution 86 (H.Con.Res.86) – Directing the President, pursuant to section 5(c) of the War Powers Resolution, to remove United States Armed Forces from hostilities with Iran. According to this Congressional website “This concurrent resolution directs the President to remove U.S. Armed Forces from hostilities against Iran unless explicitly authorized by a declaration of war or a congressional authorization for use of military force against Iran. Elements of the U.S. Armed Forces needed to defend the United States, an ally, or a partner from imminent attack are not covered by this requirement provided the President complies with a specified provision of the War Powers Resolution. (The provision generally requires the President to remove U.S. Armed Forces from hostilities no more than 60 days after the President notifies or is required to notify Congress of such involvement, unless Congress authorizes such use. For more information on the War Powers Resolution, see CRS In Focus 13134.)” This resolution previously passed the House by a vote of 215 to 208, and on Tuesday it miraculously also passed the Senate by a margin of 50 to 48 with 2 not voting. Here are the voting details from this Congressional website Granted this was not an overwhelmingly bipartisan vote, but a win is a win, and it’s especially sweet when it’s in direct defiance of Trump and Vance. On the negative side, Fickle Fetterman once again voted with the 47 Republicans who voted against this resolution. On the positive side Republicans Murkowski, Paul, Cassidy and Collins voted with the 46 Democrats for the Resolution. Murkowski has most times voted her convictions. Paul is an anti-interventionist and always votes against such foreign wars. Cassidy was recently screwed out of his seat by Trump in his Primary and sees this as a Trump revenge vote. And Collins knows she is fighting for her political life and a vote for an unpopular Trump war is not politically wise. Now don’t get all excited about Congress voting against Trump’s War. While this is a “Concurrent Resolution” passe by both Houses, it is not a Bill. Which means it doesn’t go to Trump’s desk and will never become law. However, besides it being just a vote showing the intent of Congress regarding the Iran War, it also baits the Impeachment trap for down the road. Since it clearly indicates that Congress considers any further military action against Iran to be a Presidential violation of the War Powers Act and consequently the Constitution, making it clearly another impeachable offense.
