There’s a man who leads a life of danger; to everyone he meets he stays a stranger

For various reasons, I’ve ended up on a bunch of Republican Party mailing lists (case in point: in 2016 I attended a Presidential cattle call sponsored by the Des Moines GOP). I get the usual “SEND $10 TODAY”fundraising texts from different Republican elected and candidates.

But today I got the following:

Chris, this is George with Governor Patrick Morrisey.

Patrick asked that I reach out as he will be in NYC next Thursday, June 25th, and would love to meet while in town for a cup of coffee. You may know of Patrick as he’s leading the nation creating a red-state model of conservative governance with incredible policies on energy, technology, education, healthcare, and so much more. He previously was the 3-term Attorney General that lead a series of some of the most historic U.S. Supreme Court victories, like WV v. EPA.

If you had a few minutes Thursday morning or early afternoon, it would be great to see you while in town. Text me back if you would be available!

Now, if it’s not immediately obvious, Governor Morrisey is the REPUBLICAN Governor of West Virginia. And it’s painfully clear that they didn’t do any sort of screening on me (a good fundraising consultant prepares a profile of giving history and personal characteristics for the candidate to bring up in discussion). But if they didn’t screen me, why do they think I’m a prospect for a high dollar fundraising pitch? (nb: it is possible that they made the same mistake a Delta Purser did on my last flight: Googling my name — Its the same last name as the Delta CEO — and getting a real-estate agent in Long Island).

The more immediate question is: should I take the meeting? It would be interesting to see how pro-Trump they act in front of a prospective high-dollar donor as opposed to one of the MAGA faithful. Alternatively, I could play a never-Trumper and see how “independent” he’s willing to act.
