Sailing North, a Colorado State Open Thread, June 8, 2026 [1] ['Citizen Earth'] Date: 2026-06-08 it’s hard to pick one lead photo from the many beautiful photos I’m collecting from the trip in Norway. The country is almost the opposite of Colorado, with 267 days of rain and days without rain seem to be days on the verge of rain. People here seem to always carry umbrellas or rain coats of some degree. They brag that they can get all four seasons within three hours and I don’t doubt them. Some of my notes so far – the population does seem to have many very tall people of both genders. I can’t recall seeing that in other countries or even traveling around the US. Good nutrition and healthy people I would suppose. There are also many natural and dyed blondes. Since I have always had a weakness for blondes, this is not a bad thing, imo. believe Norway seeks to become fully electric and they’re working hard at it. I don’t know if part is because they may not drive long distances generally, but electric batteries lose efficiency in cold weather and Norway has a lot of that. They also use many electric scooters and bikes to get around, but scooters are prevalent, especially in downtown Oslo and Bergen. Maybe it’s just seeing someone seven feet tall once they’re on the scooter zooming at you that you notice and get out of the way.. Electrical streetcars and busses were also common in those rwo cities – the largest in Norway by far. There are also many electric vehicles; cars, trucks, busses. Busses and vans, BTW, require all passengers to be buckled in. One statistic is that there is one registered boat of some kind (including kayaks, paddle boards, etc) for every six or so Norwegians. They love to be on the water. The country’s population is about the same as Colorado. Nobody has an accurate census of trolls, just like we don’t count our Sasqiatch. Today my Thai girlfriend got to pick up snow in her hand for the very first time. It was on the edge of a frozen lake just over 1000 meters in elevation. At this lattitude, that’s above timberline. Tomorrow we will continue sailing up the Norwegian inland passage heading to Narvik on Wednesday. I’ve seen some notes about Colorado and another No Kings Rally this coming Sunday, i believe. Please correct me if I’m wrong check you usual times and locations. I wore my “Greenland is not for sale” tyyTshirt and had complements on it around the ship. Take care of our squareish state until I get home. Until then, the floor is yours… [END] --- [1] Url: https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2026/6/8/800045777/community/placeholder-2-a-colorado-state-open-thread-june-8-2026/ Published and (C) by Daily Kos Content appears here under this condition or license: Site content may be used for any purpose without permission unless otherwise specified. via Magical.Fish Gopher News Feeds: gopher://magical.fish/1/feeds/news/dailykos/
