Sunday Morning Open Thread with Music by Robert Cray [1]

Good morning. everyone. Today’s musical guest is the modern bluesman Robert Cray. I remember seeing him in concert back in the late ’80s. He opened for Huey Lewis and the News. In my humble opinion, his timeless blues stole the show.

I hope you are having a happy Memorial Day, or, as my grandmother called it, Monuments Day. Grandma was one who used to go to all the grave sites of deceased family members this time of year, whether they were veterans or not, tidied them up, and planted some nursery flowers in front of their headstones. Towards the end of her life, when her back wasn’t up to digging anymore, I went with her to do the labor of love.

My own grandfather couldn’t serve in WWII. He had rheumatic fever as a child. It left him deaf in one ear. He tried to get through the medical exam after Pearl Harbor day but the doc caught it and gave him a big 4F. However, I did have a couple of other great uncles who served.

I also hope every American takes time out of his or her three day weekend to remember our deceased war veterans. Some gave their all. We owe them a heartfelt thank you.
