A Small Tutorial on Posting Stories [1] ['Marko The Werelynx', 'Greg Dworkin', 'Chloris Creator'] Date: 2026-05-22 Some of the good folks out there wanting to publish diaries have found the process rather bewildering. Yes, I still call them “diaries” in this because I’m old and resistant to change, especially when I keep imagining I’m hearing George Carlin saying “My stories!” referring to folks being possessive about which soap operas they watch on daytime television. Anyway, other members of the Old and Bewildered Club are struggling with the miserably designed UI of WordPress and I thought I’d run through how I go through the posting process and manage to post a diary entry each week. I figure you can muddle through the actual diary creation process on your own. Publishing a diary requires you to interact with the mysterious right side panel. Image 1 In Image 1 you can see that I’ve clicked near the top there on “Community Post” — it was all “Element” when I was editing the elements of my diary. I’d already picked a title and a title image at this point. The content of the diary was finished, I just needed to get it in the queue to be published later today. At the bottom there, you can see I’ve typed in a few tags. Image 2 In Image 2 I’ve clicked that ominous blue “Publish” button, because, hey! I don’t want to click that word “Immediately” that was in blue in Image 1 and looking like it might do something if clicked on. If you don’t want to wait, go for it. What I’m after is that little chevron-y arrow thing next to this new black “Immediately.” Image 3 Image 3 shows you what you get for being bold and clicking on little chevron-y arrow thingies. And there’s now a suspicious blue “Now” on the page. That looks dangerous, so I’ll avoid that and type in a time for my diary to be published from the queue, a time in the future! Image 4 And in Image 4 you can see how the big blue “Publish” button at the top has changed to a “Schedule” button once I’ve picked a time that qualifies as being the future. Clever, isn’t it? Image 5 Image 5 and I’ve clicked the Schedule button. The right side bar is reduced to this little blurb. If you click on that big “Add Community Post” button you’ll open up a new draft diary. My diary was scheduled to be published, one’s enough for most days. I had the feeling that I’d forgotten something though, so I clicked on that little “X” at the top there. Yeah, you click on things like that and hope you don’t delete the whole thing, don’t you? I sure do. Image 6 Image 6 shows how clicking that dreaded symbol of finality actually gets you back to a mostly familiar right sidebar. Note, we’re in the “Community Post”tab without the big, blue option to “Publish.” The Status says it’s “Scheduled.” I’d just forgotten to add a publishing group. So I hit that chevron-y arrow by Publish Group and a little grey box pops up with a list of the groups I belong to and scrolling down and selecting one now means that my diary will be published via that group and show up in the Notifications Feed of any followers of that group. And there you have it, how Marko the Werelynx navigates the right sidebar to publish his diaries, or stories if you must. You know, although most of the stuff I post here actually similar to a sort of traditional diary entry, it is actually kinda weird to call these single entries, “diaries” as if the whole of my fancy, little book of daily musings was contained in a single post. Why, it’s actually a bastardization of the English language … Ehem, that’s enough from me. I’m off to cook dinner and escape the big city for the countryside for a couple of days. I hope some of you find this helpful. I’ll be around in a few hours to romp around in a comments section should one appear. Now to hit one of those “Immediately” or “Now” things that look like they might be buttons … Pfft, had to hit them both and still had to hit the big blue “Publish” button at the top to confirm. Sheesh!
