Morning Open Thread Thursday May 21, theme: ‘feeling’ songs [1] ['Chitown Kev', 'Sabrina Haake', 'Belinda Ridgewood', 'Commander Ogg', 'Bill In Portland Maine'] Date: 2026-05-21 Welcome to Morning Open Thread. On Thursdays, I will continue the tradition of a theme. But the theme is very expandable, in whatever clever ways you devise to do that! And there are no demerits for straying from the theme. Morning Open Thread is looking for contributors, either occasional or weekly. If interested, contact officebss or Ozarkblue for more information. Also, if you have a suggestion for a Thursday theme, send a message to me. (I might miss a suggestion in the string of comments.) This week: ‘feeling’ songs, or anything related to ‘feeling’ or maybe expand to taste, smell, hearing, eyesight! preview next week: quiet songs Thanks to all the folks who add words and songs! The record was a critical and commercial success on its release, reaching number one in early February 1965 in both the United States and the United Kingdom. Various music writers have described the Righteous Brothers version as “one of the best records ever made” and “the ultimate pop record”. In 1999 the performing-rights organization Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) ranked the song as the most-played song on American radio and television in the 20th century, having accumulated more than 8 million airplays by 1999, and nearly 15 million by 2011. ========================= Feelin’ Alright?“, also known as “Feeling Alright“, is a song written by Dave Mason of the English rock band Traffic. Dave Mason explained, “I think I had the words first. The funny thing is, people seem to think that it’s a fun sort of song, but it’s really about unrequited love. There’s a question mark in the title. It asks, ‘Are you feeling all right?’ ‘Actually, I’m not feeling very good at all.’” The song features a simple two-chord composition. Mason explained, “I had been playing sitar, so I wanted a certain sitar-like quality. It’s not one chord, but it’s close. The good thing was that I didn’t need to do demos. Two chords I could remember.” Joe Cocker recorded it in 1969. He also amended the title of the original from “Feelin’ Alright?” to “Feeling Alright”. ====================== Lovin’ Feeling by The Righteous Brothers Feeling Alright by Joe Cocker [END] --- [1] Url: https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2026/5/21/800036251/community/morning-open-thread-thursday-may-21-theme-feeling-songs/ Published and (C) by Daily Kos Content appears here under this condition or license: Site content may be used for any purpose without permission unless otherwise specified. via Magical.Fish Gopher News Feeds: gopher://magical.fish/1/feeds/news/dailykos/
