AI Slop, Human Meaning and Domination [1] ['Greg Dworkin', 'Chloris Creator'] Date: 2026-05-21 There is much push-back among the majority regarding AI. I see it in the students I teach, in the professionals I meet at the pub and in the general zeitgiest. The judgment of people seems to be highly variable depending on the perceived threat to ones livelihood and their effectiveness in producing good results. My 23 years as an academic librarian, knowing the art of the interview, clearly has provided some impressive results, along with all the “slop” the following video focuses on. But the video did a wonderful job encapsulating the dilemma. It identifies, quite correctly, the issue of meaning and suffering being the key components of real artistic expression. The video does an excellent job describing the existential and cultural dilemma: meaning, craftsmanship, lived experience, authenticity, the danger of passive consumption, and the possibility that humans rediscover deeper forms of value precisely because AI commodifies shallow output. If you are an AI antagonist the video will support your view very eloquently. I highly recommend you watch it. However, the video skips the missing political layer that many “AI optimism vs AI doom” discussions skip over entirely. This addition is crucial: AI is not merely a cultural force. It is a force multiplier of organized power. That changes the analysis completely. A hammer amplifies muscle. A factory amplifies industrial capacity. A bureaucracy amplifies administrative reach. AI amplifies cognition, persuasion, surveillance, prediction, coordination, and behavioral influence at scale. Whoever controls the infrastructure, datasets, compute, platforms, and deployment pipelines gains asymmetric leverage over populations. That means the central question is not: “Is AI good or bad?” It is: “Who is empowered by AI, and what constraints exist on that power?” That is very much a Constitutional Civic Realism framing. AI accelerates the Organized Selfish Power → Organized Unaccountable Power dynamic unless counterbalanced by organized civic power and constitutional constraints. Click on my avatar for more. But, corporations already optimize attention, consumption, labor efficiency, and behavioral prediction. Governments already seek administrative reach, security control, and information dominance. When those incentives fuse through public-private partnerships, data sharing, algorithmic governance, and automated persuasion systems, liberty can quietly erode without overt tyranny. And the danger is not necessarily evil masterminds. Often it is ordinary institutional incentive structures: efficiency, profit, risk reduction, political advantage, narrative control, labor replacement, predictive policing, automated eligibility systems, algorithmic censorship, emotional targeting, and dependency creation. People imagine authoritarianism arriving with marching boots. Increasingly it may arrive through frictionless convenience. “Don’t think, the system will handle it.” “Don’t decide, the recommendation engine already knows.” “Don’t own, subscribe.” “Don’t deliberate, trust the model.” “Don’t interact locally, engage digitally.” That is why the AI power tool distinction matters so much: AI should remove drudgery, not agency. If AI handles repetitive labor, dangerous tasks, translation, medical assistance, accessibility, scientific modeling, logistics, and educational support, that can expand human flourishing. But if AI increasingly mediates: what people see what they believe what opportunities they receive how they are scored how dissent is filtered what truths are amplified how economically necessary they remain then the issue becomes constitutional and civic, not merely artistic, technological or existential The irony is that the video’s hope about “unsimulated humanity becoming the luxury good” may be partly true. But without civic safeguards, authentic human life itself can become economically marginalized while highly concentrated institutions own the systems through which society functions. So the challenge is not to reject AI outright, nor to worship it. But to put human constraints around it. Only you can do that.
