Hope Springs’ Overview for November [1] ['View Profile', 'Chitown Kev', 'Belinda Ridgewood', 'Bill In Portland Maine', 'Sabrina Haake'] Date: 2026-05-14 Yesterday, i met with House Dem’s staff about Hope Springs from Field PAC‘s Voter Contact plans for the rest of the year. This overview stems from that way-to-long meeting yesterday as well as a Zoom meeting last night with another one of Dem Congressional groups. It’s important to mention that Hope Springs‘ focus has always been on the Senate side — but its work has always been in those congressional districts that were more purple than blue, organizing Democrats and unaffiliated voters to mobilize those voters who are sometimes forgotten by campaigns and other Democratic-aligned groups. On March 7th, Hope Springs volunteers began knocking on doors again in Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Nevada and Texas. Since then, we have added California, Iowa, Michigan, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia. We aren’t knocking on doors in solid blue districts, although there are some Lean Democratic districts on the list. There are a lot more Toss-Up seats, Lean Republican seats and seats Republicans want to steal in November by remaps that add significant more Republicans, white or conservative voters to seats that Democrats now hold. (The image to the right or top highlight states where Hope Springs volunteers have canvassed. Not all are included (eg, New Mexico, where we canvassed for a special election and have not returned).) Marcy Kaptur’s seat in Ohio CD-09 was one i mentioned repeatedly last night, buy Don Davis’ seat in North Carolina CD-01 also falls into this category — as well as a slew of Texas and Florida Democratic-held seats. Hope Springs volunteers have identified 44 House Districts where we knock on doors. 26 of those are currently held by Republicans, 14 are held by Democrats, and identified as Toss-Ups or Lean Democratic by political prognosticators. Another 4 are Democratic seats remapped by Republicans for their benefit, to eliminate their Democratic Member of Congress. Because Hope Springs has a strategy of chasing Democrats and like Democratic-unaffiliated voters to work the margins to elect Democrats to the Senate, it happens that we are already canvassing in districts that are suddenly in play for 2026 — or that House Democratic committees would like to be in play. Given the current political conditions, Democrats are eager to expand the map — and battlegrounds — this November. Fueled by momentum from recent special election performances and concerns over Republican leadership, the party is widening its focus to include more competitive seats, to regain majority status in the House. President felon and Republicans in the House are doing everything they can to prevent that. Trump initiated the Redistricting Wars, James Blair’s plan to retain the Republican majority in the off-year cycle. (The image to the left or top indicates the Congressional districts where Hope Springs volunteers are canvassing. The one below indicates Senate races.) Hope Springs volunteers often hear from voters they talk to that they are the “first Democrat they have ever seen” at their doorsteps (or “in years”). They can even think there are no other Democrats in their neighbor-hood — something we encourage volunteers to dispel. One of the advantages that Republicans have in states like Texas, Florida, North Carolina, Ohio or even Iowa is that Republicans will always win; that there aren’t Democrats around. In this respect, our volunteers are building confidence within the electorate that Democrats can — and should — win. This is why Early Organizing, continual Voter Contact, is critical. One of the biggest tragedies of the Covid period was that voters stopped seeing Democrats at their doors, and believing that we would fight for them. Hope Springs from Field PAC started knocking on doors again this year on March 7th. We continue to target Democrats and unaffiliated voters with our systematic approach that reminds them not only that Democrats care, but that Democrats are determined to deliver the best, most affordable government possible to all Americans. The voters we talk to continue to tell us they come away more invested in governance and feel more favorably towards Democrats in general because of our approach. Obviously, we rely on grassroots support, so if you support field/grassroots organizing, voter registration (and follow-up) and our efforts to protect our voters, we would certainly appreciate your support: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/UNRIGtheMidterms Hope Springs from Field understands that volunteer to voter personal interactions are critical. Knocking on doors has repeatedly been found to be the most successful tactic to get voters to cast a ballot and that is the goal of what we do. Yes, we really need your help here! Our printer’s bills are — like most things — much higher than we had anticipated for the year. Adding extra states (like California) did not help the budget! Our Early Organizing efforts turns its head on traditional GOTV-related persuasion scripts. Instead, we focus on listening to voters — their concerns, their views of their elected officials and the voting process. We’ve added two things to our questionnaire, both of them driven by president felon’s insistence on the Save Act. These are just in case that thing passes so we can protect our voters for November. Other than that, the Issues Surveys haven’t really changed. Voters like to tell us what is important to them! But Issues Surveys provide a rational for continuous Voter Contact that allows us to build the voter database in a way that identifies evolving voter preferences and issue concerns. Especially in the South, Democrats’ data has been sparse and many Democrat had to start from scratch for that purpose. By opening up voter preferences, issue concerns and self-identified traits, Democrats aren’t beginning with that data gap with Republicans. Another thing we do is offer voters a chance to request public services from their government officials. These are extremely popular! We send completed CSRs to Democratic elected officials responsible for the requested functions, but if the appropriate office is held by a Republican, we still send it along. For Democrats, though, we encourage them to reach out immediately to the voter who filled out the Constituent Service Request forms and let them know they are working on the issue. This credit-taking is enormously valuable to the Democratic office-holder. Our plan from the beginning of each year is to complete our Issues canvasses by Labor Day. In most places, we assume finishing these First and Second Rounds (of a traditional 5 round canvass) will allow campaigns to begin their own field programs armed with data and a beginning of a GOTV list for the Fall. Many of our organizers have moved over to senate and congressional campaigns for their persuasion and GOTV phases. But there are also times where we’ve been asked to continue into the Fall, even until Election Day, because these swingy areas wouldn’t be covered otherwise. Our goal — a core mission — is to fill gaps in Democratic organizing that have emerged since the Covid period. We are not everywhere, nor to we aspire to be; we are targeting key states and key districts where victory will be created, identifying (or searching for), motivating and mobilizing Democratic and unaffiliated voters who will become that Democratic coalition for victory. We knock on the doors of Democratic and Independent voters and use a voter-driven approach to guide them through the Issues Survey, Constituent Service Requests and Incident Reports (for witnesses to Election irregularities). We record questions voters raise with a Q(uestion)-slip and record other relevant observations on Observations forms. Q-slips are sent to the relevant Democrat to respond to and Observations are entered into VAN with the rest of the data from our Issues Questionnaires. At every door, we leave a piece of “show the flag” lit, something that tells them we were there and hopefully reinforces the Democratic brand. The lit focuses on the things voters told us were important to them last fall, aiming to appeal to every voter. Hope Springs volunteers do go into the Fall, usually with a campaign field operation. Others continue with our First Time voter effort — mentoring, communicating and mobilizing young voters who have just registered to vote. We seek to integrate those we register into loyal, habitual Democratic voters. Hope Springs has targeted states that have competitive Senate races and/or Congressional Races in 2026. There is a lot of work to be done! Especially since we have had to expand the map this year. By starting early, and aiming towards super-compliance with some really, really onerous new voter regulations, Hope Springs from Field seeks to undermine that strategy, while informing voters about the new laws and regulations aimed at them and helping them to check their current voter registration status, if they cannot access it online themselves. Hope Springs is a seat-of-the-pants grassroots-driven operation. We don’t have employees (yet) but we realize that to formalize and professionalize this effort that will have to change eventually. Hope Springs has been called “the most comprehensive, organized grassroots voter contact project out there right now. It is truly astonishing that it is grassroots-based!” Not sure why it is “astonishing,” but i probably have more faith in grassroots or self-organized efforts because of my experience with Barack Obama’s early days in 2007. No other Democratically-aligned org has been methodically trying to circumvent MAGA efforts to rig the House Midterm elections. And we need your help to continue. If you are able to support Hope Springs from Field’s efforts to protect Democratic voters, especially in minority communities, expand the electorate, and believe in grassroots efforts to increase voter participation and election protection, we would appreciate your support: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/UNRIGtheMidterms If you would rather send a check, you can follow that link for our mailing address at the bottom of the page. Thank you for your support. This work depends upon you!
