How to Fight Disinformation in Three Easy Steps [1] ['Art Smart', 'View Profile', 'Greg Dworkin', 'Thom Hartmann', 'The Marti'] Date: 2026-05-11 You come across a great meme you want to share. But how do you know if it’s true? We all know it’s completely irresponsible to share something when you don’t know if it’s true or not. I’m a liberal, and I’m finding inaccuracies even in liberal memes. Conservative memes tend to be even worse, up to and including pure fiction. These are my suggestions: 1. If it’s a meme with text on it, I use Google Lens to read and copy the text for me. I first have to save the meme to my phone, and at least on this Android phone, I can invoke Google Lens right there from the image (using the vertical three dots in the Google Photos app). [Important update: The first comment below says you can paste the meme image directly into ChatGPT, and they’re right!] 2. If it’s pure text, just copy the text as is. Google Lens not needed. 3. Once I have the text whose truthfulness needs checking, I open ChatGPT (or use the large language model AI of your choice), insert something like “how true is the following?”, then I paste all of the text in its entirety. Within seconds, I have a detailed analysis of the meme or post in question, complete with references I can check if I wish. People act like they’re fearful of AI, and I am one of them, so I was delighted to see that AI might be used to fight disinformation. Disinformation is a much greater threat than AI at this point. The above illustrations show a very simple example. Try it on a real meme you want to check. It’s absolutely amazing!
