Last Thursday night, for the second time in two weeks, I had a landline and/or internet outage. This most recent one was both. Late Thursday afternoon, a company came out here and began installing a new underground line for the cable TV company. As you may know, they have heavy machinery now that can do that without digging up the pavement or landscaping above ground. While they were working, both my computer and landscaping lost their connections. I went outside to ask the workers if that machine might have caused it. The first two guys didn’t speak English but one of them promptly held out his phone. His supervisor was on the other end. I heard him yelling in English over the loud machinery, “You are kidding me! I’ll be right there.” The supervisor got here in about a half hour. After I told him what happened, he was kind enough to lend me his cell. Why my phone company, from which I also get my online service, always makes me first shut off my computer is beyond me. What’s that supposed to do for my landline? Anyway, the guy on the phone said he’d have some technicians out here Friday morning to have a look. I spent Thursday night and Friday morning bored out of my mind. It occurred to me that I didn’t even have this diary started yet. Oh, well. Nothing I could do about that. The phone company’s techs got here at around 9:00 AM. It only took them a couple minutes to tell me the outage was coming from about 750 feet up the line. They had my phone and internet connection fixed up shortly. Before they left, one of them came to my door and said the phone cable wasn’t severed, but it was slightly damaged. My lines just seemed to catch the worst of it. This tech also made sure I didn’t go sticking a needle into the back of my modem or anything. If I had, he’d have had to come into this messy computer/sewing room and reprogram the thing. I assured him I didn’t. Of course the first thing I did when I had this computer working again was try to get on Daily Kos. Except I was knocked off it and Daily Kos wouldn’t let me log back on. After several hours emailing back and forth with the Help Desk they had to send me yet another password. Finally, after nearly 24 hours offline I could chat with friends again. This site sure is addictive. So that’s what was up with me. We’re always looking for new diarists whether to assume weekly duties or for a one shot deal. Contact either officebss or Ozarkblue if you’re interested. Now on with the music. What’s on your mind this morning?
